What would the new threads here be like if the situation were reversed?
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 03:59 PM by Motown_Johnny
Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that we were in the repugs shoes and they were in ours.

Behind in every reasonable EV projection

Behind in popular vote projection

VP candidate made a fool of by radio jocks in the last 72 hours of the campaign

Presidential candidate virtually conceding on SNL in the last 72 hours of the campaign

far better GOTV effort against us instead of for us

out of money

out of ideas

out of time

How would the new threads here go if that were our situation?

3. No, I'm pretty sure we'd be just as insanely optimistic as the Freepers...
...some of whom are certain they're on track for a landslide. It's just how it works.

6. Picking out obscure outlying polls to convince ourself we were going to win...
Coming up with insane theories about how all the polls are wrong. Talk up some hidden factor(s). Denial.

There would also be some doom and gloom, but a lot of denial.

10. More denial, I think--'cause it still lingers.
Some people still think Kerry was way ahead in the polls on Election day 2004. They couldn't be more wrong.

12. I wasn't a DU'er back then but I was certainly in denial too.
I didn't see how Kerry could possibly lose...

13. Neither did I! I cried for weeks after... like I was in mourning
Looking back, I was in mourning for my country because I knew what was going to happen after they stole it from Kerry, and it did!!!

9. People would talk about how defeat was inevitable and how democrats don't have their shit together
The republicans are sincerely shocked that they are going to lose. They are in denial.

If the shoe was on the other foot, we wouldn't be shocked, we'd be, "here we go again." People would go on about how democrats are so dsyfunctional that they couldn't even win the presidency in this environment. You'd have Obama supporters blaming Hillary Clinton and PUMAs, while HRC supporters would be talking about how they were right about Obama being un-electable, how he stole the election, about how Hillary will win 2012, etc.

Basically, you'd have the crap going on that went on during the primaries.
