Okay... Missouri, You Know What They Say... I Don't Think Obama Is
winning in MO. Anyone have information. I looked at ElectoralVote.com and it's leaning Red. Not by much, but very very close.

So goes Missouri, so goes the Nation! As Rachel would say... Talk Me Down!!! PLEEEEEZZZEEE!

1. This is the election where NOTHING can be
taken for granted. That goes for both sides.

4. Delaware was like that until 2004
The votes went to the winner every time except then. That alone proves it was stolen!

5. Wrong.
Adlai Stevenson won Missouri in 1956 over Eisenhower and lost the election 457-73.

10. Meh.
Every pundit seems to have some magic formula, and I've heard different states and years used in that same sentence. Every state counts, all previous bets are off, and we're not taking anything for granted until one of the candidates gives a concession speech.

14. the only thing that has me worried is David Brooks predicted an Obama landslide
Which makes me think just the opposite. I mean honestly, how often is David Brooks right?

VICTORY!! A comfortable PLUS, so we won't hear "foul or fraud!"

19. I personally think
he'll get well over 300 EVs, up to about 350 if it all falls in line. But yeah, I'm happy with comfortable. I like his chances for a big win, but I'll believe it when I see it. :)

3. He doesn't need it at all.
But the latest polling shows it even. McCain is up by a few points in two, Obama in one, it's tied in a few others. One point separates them either way in a few polls. Every single one is within the margin of error. It is basically even there, historically, you'd give McCain a slight edge. But with Iowa, New Mexico and Colorado looking to go Obama's way all he needs to do is hold on to the rest of the Kerry states. He looks good in Virginia and North Carolina, a win in either one basically ends McCain's hopes. Missouri would be a nice pickup, but not even remotely necessary.

7. This one's breaking all the rules.
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 01:43 PM by Waiting For Everyman
It already has so far. The old paradigms are out the window. Rove politics should've sunk him bigtime a month ago... he shouldn't be competitive in the red states... he should be out of money by now... he should've had a southerner on the ticket...

It's a trail of broken rules behind him already.

17. I heard that if David Broder stands on his head
and can last longer than 1 minute before falling, on the 2nd week of March that means that a Dem will win the WH. It's true! He's done it since the the Revolution.

11. He doesn't need it but I want to deliver MO bad. It will definitely come down to GOTV and I've
been very impressed with the organization here. I get calls from the Obama campaign daily, I was at the local headquarters last week and it was still filled with workers at 9:00 pm. Obama drew 100,000 in STL, 75,000 in KC, and 30-40,000 in Columbia which shows the enthusiasm in the state.

Carter dominated in the south in 1976. You don't see that happening much any more.

history simply doesn't bear this out.

16. I know they always have some stat like that
If this election has proven anything, it's that all bets are off, this is a different election, in a different day and age. It's breaking it's own ground.

For 80 years, California only went to the loser twice and there was a span from 1916-1960 (44 years) where California went to the winner every election. So 80 years of it only going to the loser twice and now it's gone to the loser the past two elections.

24. We will be close in Missouri
I live in the Central part of the state and it sucks. But, I will say that I've seen way more support for Obama than I did for Kerry Edwards in 2004. Some of our Catholic Repub neighbors are going for Obama this time around. My family's in KC and they see a lot of Obama support. I went to Obama's rally in Columbia on Thursday and the turnout was AMAZING. If he can turn out high numbers in KC, St Louis and in Columbia, keep the margins lower where I am and in Springfield, he can eke it out. I promise you that.

There is no question that the fundies in SW and SE Missouri shame us. And, Palin's got them stirred up in a tizzy. But, the Big MO has a long proud Dem history - the roots are strong.

Hubby and I are going to do our part. We'll cast our votes and I signed up to volunteer for Obama on election day to transport folks to the polls. And, I will pray very hard.
