just received this in an e-mail
There was almost a riot at the voting location.
With all the discussion about voting fraud and acorn I thought you might
want to know what was going on in my home town today. I live in the town of
Kinston in eastern North Carolina. I am an insurance agent with Farm Bureau
Mutual Insurance Company of N.C. I received a phone call from one of my
three sons this morning. He had been talking to a republican that was a
member of the local board of elections. The board member had just left the
Kinston early voting location with some very disturbing information. He was
involved with an attempt to stop the 'circus' that was going there. He had
stated that bus loads of mentally retarded and severely handicapped patients
from a state funded facility called The Caswell Center were being
transported to the voting location and that their black democratic state
employee aids were voting for them. They claimed they were assisting; but,
how can institutionalized mentally retarded patients know how to vote much
less make a reasonable logical decision? Most of them cannot read or write
and many of them are also blind. This must be illegal!! He also reported
that democratic supporters were passing out shot bottles of alcoholic drinks
to other voters before and after they had voted. The parking lot looked
more like the back alley of a local tavern on a Saturday night than a voting
location. This news was verified by my 60 yr old sister this afternoon . I
stopped by her home after work and was sharing the info when she advised me
that she had personally witnessed what was going on because she had voted
today at the same facility. She said that many voters
black/white/democratic/republicans were questioning what was going on there.
I am 55 yrs old and for the first time in my adult life I don't have much
faith in our democratic system and the way it operates. I hope this info
will somehow help correct our countries direction and help make other
Americans more aware of our serious voting flaws and expose the democratic
party for trying to steal our Presidential Election.

MEMORANDUM

TO: The Kinston-Lenoir County Community

FROM: Beverly Vinson, Center Director
Caswell Developmental Center

RE: Rumor about Voter Fraud from Caswell Residents

DATE : October 28, 2008

For nearly 100 years, Caswell Developmental Center has been the leader in serving people with disabilities in the Kinston-Lenoir County community. We are not currently, nor would we ever, exploit the individuals we serve by attempting to take away or manipulate any of their rights.

There is currently a rumor that has been circulating via email (and now the Internet) that accuses Caswell Center employees of busing its clients to the polls and engaging in early voting for them. This accusation is completely false.

Here are the facts:
•The Center’s practice for voting is consistent with state and federal guidelines.
•For the limited number of registered voters at the Center, the voter’s guardian and support team help to determine if the voter is capable of understanding the process and would benefit from exercising his or her right to vote.
•No registered voter living at the Center has exercised his or her right to vote in this election, nor has any employee voted on behalf of an individual who resides at the Center.

Since this allegation came to light, it has been thoroughly investigated and confirmed as inaccurate by Dana King, the Lenoir County Elections Official; Jon Dawson from The Free Press; and BJ Murphy, Lenoir County Co-Chair of the Republican Party.

We appreciate the support from these community leaders and look forward to continued support from our great community, who we trust would rather set the record straight than promote a vicious rumor that harms innocent people.

15. And who was this e-mail from?
It has all the elements of a junk e-mail.

In GOP's terms, "stopping the circus" means suppressing the vote.

Do you really think this is credible? So what if somebody's sister "verified" it? Who is she? Every election year stories circulate about Dems shipping in people from locations such as missions or homeless shelters and bribing them with booze and smokes. How is this any different?

Do you seriously think that the cops in that town would allow such open drinking and alcohol distribution in a parking lot? That kind of crap gets shut down right quick?

There was a question at the end of my ballot in Iowa (state law?) that asked 'yes' or 'no' the wording of something should be changed from 'Idiotic or insane people shall not be allowed to vote' to 'Mentally handicapped'.

I didn't know how to answer; I wasn't aware of such a thing. Should I be worried? Should I call, and ask someone?

"black" for "white", and "severely handicapped patients from a state funded facility called The Caswell Center" for "illiterate rednecks from the Appalachians who never voted in their life", then you have the model on how Jesse Helms narrowly kept his senate seat in the infamous 1990 campaign...Funny how this 55 y/o N.C. resident didn't remember to type THAT in his astroturf spam...

38. More of Republican PRETENDING that Dems are doing voter fraud
They need to circulate stories pretending Dems are doing voter fraud to cover up their continued attempts to decrease Democratic voter turnout, as they did in most elections since 2000. See documentaries and websites below for more detail.

This email is trying to slip into the ACORN basket. They are pretending that Democrats have fake or unregistered people vote. That's the whole ACORN fake out. Very very few instances have ever been cited.

The Bush Department of Justice fired some attorneys because they REFUSED TO TAKE TRUMPED UP CASES against ACORN. THose attorneys thought the cases didn't have enough evidence so they refused to take them on and they were fired.

Republicans wanted to have some cases to wave around to show the problem was real. BUT THEY COULDN"T GET ANY REAL CASES so they have had to stir things up with public relations. They've had to cook up a whole ACORN controversy without any cases to show that it is real.

What we do know is that REPUBLICANS have manipulated elections and many of those attempts HAVE BEEN LEGALLY STOPPED, especially the many attempts to purge voter rolls in swing states.
