Help with Voter Registration problem in NYC
My daughter has a friend who registered by mail to vote in New York City. This person called their precinct to verify their eligibility and was told the form was lost in the mail. They are not listed on the rolls.

Anyway to rectify this? Should I advise they take a provisional ballot? Any online resources so that this person can seek redress?

Thanks in advance!

5. more on affidavit vote in NYC
from page 18 of

"What If I'm Not Permitted To Vote?"
If you are not on the poll-list, ask the inspector to verify that you are at the proper table for your address. Make sure that it is your correct Election and Assembly District. It may be because your registration form was not received by the deadline or, for a primary, because you aren't enrolled in a party. If you believe that you are eligible, you can still vote. Ask for an affidavit ballot, which is basically a paper ballot. After the election, the Board of Elections will check its records and your vote will be counted if you are indeed eligible to vote and are at the correct polling site. If not, you will receive a notice that you are not eligible, along with a registration application for future elections.

2. There was a post earlier this week
Because of heavy new registrations, the Board of Elections has fallen behind in processing them. Accordingly, I wonder whether her registration was actually lost in the mail or simply not yet processed.

Earlier this week, someone here at CU posted about people going to court to make sure that they are enrolled. I don't have time to do a search for it but you should be able to find it.

4. She should contact the Board of Elections and the local Obama campaign.
She needs to go in front of a judge. A judge can probably work it out. I don't know the entire procedure.

7. Thank you for the replies
This is a first time voter and she wanted to make sure she could vote. Here is the backstory, as it might be relevant:

"She filled out a voter registration form and mailed it in two months ago, but every time she called the NY Board of Elections they'd put her on hold for 45 minutes then tell her to call back later. The first time she actually got through on the phone w/ them was today."

She was told to call her precinct

"...but they called their precinct and someone said their registration form had been lost. Do you know if there is anything they can do about this?"

9. Thanks Joe!
She is going to check in with the Obama folks in NYC and push her case as they advise.

This is a first time voter. It is enormously encouraging to have this help and get this person's vote counted. The best way to create lifetime (Democratic, lol) voters is to get them in the habit of voting and let them know that help is available if needed.

Appreciate this!
