You are the ones....

... that have always been there.

I can remember Super Tuesday when Sen. Obama made his speech in Chicago and belt out the words, "We are the ones that we have been waiting for." Except, after having cast my ballot for Sen. Obama and Joe Biden this past Friday and speaking with so many of my family members that have already voted, and the general positivity and camaraderie they have felt in speaking with other Obama supporters at the polls, I came to the realization that you are the ones that have always been there.

By you, I mean every person in the course of history that has always looked at people through the scope of humanity and compassion, and not through the eyes of selfishness, hate, and malice.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who realized that for a great republic to stand and live out it ideals of freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, those lofty ideals embedded in print in the Constitution would have to become a reality for America's sons and daughters.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who organized with abolitionists and pushed until the phrase "all men are created equal" became more than mere notion pushed by people who weren't honoring their own words.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who realized that for this great Union to gain its strength, that a house divided could not stand, and risked life and limb to ensure that it would forever remain united.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who realized that women were more than the limits placed on them and marched hand in hand with them to gain suffrage.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who realized that separate was inherently unequal, and reaffirmed it during sit-ins, freedom rides, and demonstrations, being spat on, ridiculed, ostracized, and sometimes being killed, so that we could become a better nation.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who understood what Martin meant when he said that one day we'd get to the mountaintop.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... that for the last 30 years have had to endure being called evil, anti-American, and unpatriotic when, every day of your life, you dream of how you can always move your country forward and make it better because you love it so much.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... that feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and have compassion for your fellow man.

YOU ARE THE ONES ... who realize that there is so much more work that has to be done.

The truth is, though you are the one's America's been waiting for, you are the one's that have always been here, and on November 4th, YOU WILL BE THE ONES to put BARACK OBAMA in the White House.
