Jean Shaheen left me cold, still wearing kid gloves...
I thought the Kerry campaign was going to come out swinging with gloves off now. To hear Jean Shaheen being interviewed by Kelly Wallace on CNN this morning, it was at best a dull disappointment, at worst an alarming sign that nothing has changed!

Here is a major campaign manager sitting there spewing the same dull Democratic talking points that are going to convince NO ONE to change their mind and vote for Kerry who otherwise might. She was totally on script with the same message, "The country is going in the wrong direction and Kerry is going to change that". "Bush is wrong on jobs, on healthcare, on education... and Kerry is going to change that."

When Kelly asked her about the nearly 30 point spread between Bush & Kerry on who would handle terrorism and Iraq better, her response was that Kerry would make the economy stronger and provide more jobs. HELLO... is that going to get me to vote for Kerry on national security?

I want to know what the hell is going on STILL with the Kerry campaign. If it doesn't get any better than this... well, I hate to think of it. :grr:

1. It's all about the talking points
Jean Shaheen has only one job. ignore the questions being asked and keep hammering the talking points. I saw the interview, also. And my feeling was what could Jean say. It's 30 points for cris' sakes. So what did she say. More than you are saying. She hit the point that Iraq was wrong and that we aren't safer any more now than years before. About the jobs was how she ended the question hitting home about job loss and security at home begins with jobs. It wasn't as bad as what you are saying. Jean just doesn't hit the points home like Ed Gillespie who never answers a question but sure can crush those talking points home in 60 seconds.

2. that's what Republicans always do
"Ed Gillespie who never answers a question but sure can crush those talking points home in 60 seconds."

that's what they always do. notice when republicans lie about Kerry a bunch of posts pop up on DU(excluding trolls) asking if this is true and to give an explanation. but the first thing we should be doing is demand THEY PROVE IT. we shouldn't just accept anything they say without proof.

3. So, I'm overreacting...
Perhaps my expectations are too high for the Kerry campaign and I'd better just lower them? You say that Jean Shaheen "has only one job", and that's to hammer the talking points. Silly me, I thought our people ought to be bit more versatile and creative in their jobs... it's only the fate of the country that's in the balance here, by God!

Give me a break. When a major campaign manager comes out and sounds like a broken record who will change NO ONE's mind to come over and vote for Kerry, well, sorry, but that just worries the HELL out of me... and it ought to worry you as well. Instead I hear you providng excuses for her.

Shit man, the time for excuses is OVER! It's time they come out of the corner with fists flying. PERIOD!

10. She wasn't on an information show. She was on a the local morning news
She gets to make her points in seconds, not hours. If you are looking for depth, you can't look for any reality in the news media.

5. It's NOT the economy, stupid
Krugman's column today hits it on the head: "It's NOT the economy, stupid". And he's an economist.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/07/opinion/07krugman.html?hp

What's upsetting to so many is not that Bush is a bully, or that Republicans are liars, or that Americans are sheep, but a more basic matter of judgment in not learning the lessons of the midterms in 2002 or what happened to Gore in 2000.

6. This is indeed the crux of the matter...
"To win, the Kerry campaign has to convince a significant number of voters that the self-proclaimed "war president" isn't an effective war leader - he only plays one on TV."

Also, read this very important message from DU'er "abrock" who did some research on some republican friends... it tells ALL. This really is an important message, please read if you haven't already:

7. Kerry's surrogate operation is still shit.
Strategically the campaign is moving in a very welcome new direction, but implementing that strategy is going to be difficult as long as our talking points and their articulation are sub par. The last piece of transforming the campaign is getting rid of whoever's in charge of writing the talking points, and replacing the people in charge of making sure our surrogates articulate them.

8. You hear what Kerry said in Ohio?
He said "W stands for 'wrong.'" Then he lit into the unelected moron. Pretty stirring stuff from the guy I want to see get fired up.

9. Great on Kerry, I couldn't agree with you more...
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 09:24 AM by Flubadubya
now let's get some serious surrogates out there that can be as effective with the message as Kerry is. I have no complaints about the man and his message, just his staffers who could use some of the "fire in the belly" he has developed. Share the fire Kerry!!! :bounce:
