If one empty statement like "There you go again" can vault a doddering
actor to the Presidency, what empty, stupid statement will Karen Hughes come up with for Bush to use in the debates? At least Reagan could get his lines straight. Bush can't.

3. It wasn't "there you go again" that did it
Not just anyone could have said "there you go again" and made it work. It was Reagan's way of smiling gayly, cocking his head to one side, and shaking it slightly. That made all the difference. All he had to do was smile, cock his head, and shake it while reading a grocery bill and he had half of America at his feet. That was the Reagan secret. George Bush has discovered the hunch and bob. All he has to do is hunch his shoulders over a podium, bob his head up and down while looking serious and people from dueling-banjo land swoon.
