Make sure you have the correct postage on your Ballots
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 01:36 PM by DearAbby
Here in Colorado, the postage was .59 Cents to mail. Have the correct postage. Make sure your Ballot arrives to be counted

1. This is why I delivered my ballot in person.
I went straight to my county's Election office and dropped it into the ballot box with my own hand.

I'm not trusting the postal service with my ballot.

3. I realize the cost of ballots in many states are not the same
In Colorado we had a huge ballot, and cost was .59 cents to mail it.

Voting issues are very relevant to the Presidential election - we're seeing all sorts of vote caging and such, and lots of Rethug county clerks are "neglecting" to inform voters of the ballot postage requirements, in hopes that voters will just stick a first-class stamp on their ballots and drop them in the mailbox, causing them to be lost.

Mods, correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I think ballot issues are very relevant here.

8. Here in WA there are special drop boxes for ballots.
I took mine to one of those, rather than mail it. Just seemed safer. There has never been a problem here, but all these issues in other states have me paranoid.

9. They have drop boxes at the county courthouse.
But some people are infirmed or ill and it is difficult to get out. Those who mail the ballots, make sure you know how much the postage will be.

They had a sign at the post office yesterday, Implying the vote may not be counted if it doesnt have the correct postage.

10. FWIW
For what it's worth, I was told at a Voter Protection meeting here in MI that it's USPS policy to deliver election related materials (e.g. absentee ballots) regardless of postage.

13. Regular first class is sufficient in Washington unless the county materials explicitly direct more
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 01:55 PM by crankychatter
we went through this the other day on here

for Washington State... this is the case

in fact it says right on the envelope... POSTMASTER, DO NOT DELAY - OFFICIAL BALLOT

sneakily requiring additional postage is a form of vote suppression

I'm quite sure it's a crime... for ya'all in those states that are doing it... you have my sympathy

16. In Los Angeles County
you can confirm online that your mail in ballot has been received.

(They track the number on your ballot to your name and house number.)
