Acorn scandal is a way to push through National ID's for use at the polls?
I know the short term gain is to cause enough confusion to allow for a court case to challenge the results but, could this be yet another way to bring up that issue again? Could they be hoping that they will wear us down with this challenge or scandal or what ever they want to call it to get an agreement on national id's for voting purposes?

Just thinking out loud here but, doesn't it sound like something that could be a side agenda for them?

1. I actually don't have a problem with showing ID, IF IF IF IF...
a way is found not to disenfranchise the poor, the elderly, etc. So far, I can't personally think of a way. :)

2. There should be a nationwide motor voter law
If you have a driver's license, state-issued ID card or any kind of other official identification, you are automatically added to the voter rolls, provided you qualify (non-felon, U.S. citizen, old enough, etc.). Makes sense. And Obama and ACORN supported it in Illinois.

If, for some reason, someone cannot get a state ID (if they really can't cought up the $10 for it), then that's something to sort out. Perhaps a toll-free number could be in place to guide those people (the extremely poor, elderly, etc) through the process.

There is a compromise between the two camps, and perhaps it would cut down on all this registration fraud.

3. Extend this idea a bit.

If the .gov already has enough tracking and privacy-violating Big Brother infrastructure in place to make everyone's lives miserable, let's put some of this technology to good use.

I'll call it the Automatic Voter system.

In other words, if the federal, state or local governments in your area have any way at all of figuring out that you're a U.S. citizen and over the age of 18, you are automatically registered to vote.

Renew your driver's license? BANG! You're registered. You don't have to do anything.
File your taxes? BANG! You're registered. You don't have to do anything.
Get a job and show your ID to your employer to prove you're not illegally in the country? The paperwork shows you're a citizen over 18? BANG! You're registered. You don't have to do anything.
Got a Social Security Number? BANG! You're registered. You don't have to do anything.

See how this works?

In short, there shouldn't be such a thing as registering to vote - the system should already know that you're eligible to vote, and just give you your ballot.

Of course, this will never be implemented because it doesn't have any mechanism for disenfranchising brown people...

4. Good points
All it really takes is a few extra boxes to check on DMV registration forms.

I agree with the last sentence. Tougher for the Katherine Harrises of the world to weed out the undesirables.

5. Yeah, ain't that the truth.

It's practically speaking, not that hard for the government to determine if a person is a U.S. Citizen over the age of 18 - there just plain shouldn't be such a thing as registering to vote, or registration lists or caging or purging. You should just be able to go and vote.

The only reason why we're seeing what we're seeing today - the basic concept of voter registration, the screeching about ACORN and voter fraud, etc. is because the Cruellas out there are itching for an excuse to prevent as many people as possible from voting.

6. this is a government built on compromise...
so let's compromise. We give up National ID (or State ID such as a driver's license) for use at the polls, they give up private BBV companies. Standardize the practice of IDing voters at the polls in return for a standard, transparent method of voting. I'd go that far.
