Mika Mouse Club's CPR Special
MSNBC is doing a special public service educational show this morning. The Mouseketeers are morphing into Mooseketeers, and performing CPR and first aid on the Sarah Palin campaign. $150,000 on clothes and hair? Oh, you guys just don't appreciate how hard it is for America's favorite hockey mom. The repeated mistake about the role of the vice president? Gosh, who really expects a vice presidential candidate to be familiar with the Constitution of the United States?

Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 05:34 AM by VolcanoJen
Well, Mika, that's what happens when you try to defend someone who spends $75,000 on clothing in one freaking DAY. "But, poor Sarah Palin, she'd be attacked for NOT being well-dressed!" is Mika's defense.

It must be really fun living Mika's lifestyle. Oh, and now Barnicle and the woman from Financial Times jumping in to defend POOR SARAH.

they actually do read and respond to the email consensus they receive. By setting them straight, we also work to set straight the important decision makers on that show and nip in the bud any ridiculous talking points that they could repeat later.

$150K for (just shy of) two months worth of clothes. That's the price of the average starter home. That's around 2x the median income of your average middle-class family.

19. I wrote her just now.
"Oh, Mika. You get so defensive about Sarah Palin and it's really offputting, especially for ME as a woman -- and I KNOW how much clothing costs -- to see you defending her outrageous spending on her wardrobe. She's perfectly content to portray herself as a Walmart mom who just happens to stop in a store to pick up diapers for Trig... so why not wear their clothes or comparably priced ones? Are they not good enough? I don't care who bought her clothes. You act as if they send her through a machine, something out of the Jetsons perhaps, that automatically dresses her, as if she has zero input. Stop defending her, for the love of all that's holy. She's a big girl and can handle the well-deserved negative press herself, without your enthusiastic help."

Now she's asking how much Obama spends on his suits?
Meanwhile, we're in an economic crisis, two wars, our infrastructure is crumbling....and the conversation this morning is how unfairly Palin is being criticized for her clothing allowance.

states that the VP is to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies..."

I commented that in Palin's case, if she were to be elected, that the biggest enemy would be Palin herself due to her disgraceful and willful ignorance of the Constitution. I also remarked that for the millions of women who have achieved success through hard work, intelligence and COMPETENCE, Palin was an insult.

69. I mean, really
As if they'll ever be sold (they won't be). Sarah is enjoying her moment and you can bet she'll keep the swag.

Even if they were sold, it would be at some celeb auction, and the "winner" would put the article of clothing up on eBay, you know, like the Alaska jet. ;-) It's not like some poor woman would ever touch this clothing.

But, you go Sarah! Just a regular old Wal-Mart mama, aren't you?

114. You are right. As a former fundraiser for nonprofits the whole idea is to get LOTS of money
for an item. I'm all for it if the charity gets the $$$ but the clothes would go to the highest bidder.

P.S. I have regularly given my business attire to a charity that actually keeps a big "closet" for outfitting poor women for the workplace. The nicer pieces go there and the others just to Goodwill...

I wrote again.

"Mika: Who will ensure and confirm that those clothes are actually donated to charity? I don't believe it for a second, not until I see it. If she spent LESS on the clothing, if they were actually going to donate it to charity, lots more women could benefit, wouldn't you agree? So, ten women might benefit, as it stands, and might be wearing super expensive designer suits... how many normal work outfits could $150,000 get for women in shelters or women in need if they were bought at a place an average American could afford? Your defense of this is astounding and very telling.

The Obamas clearly don't spend that much on clothing. In fact, there's an interview out there, possibly for ET or Access Hollywood, in which Michelle talks about how Barack's closet is full of old clothes he's had for years, scuffed up shoes and all. Michelle herself wore a comparably inexpensive dress that an average American woman could (and many did) actually buy when she made an appearance on The View. I know you like to portray this as a "both sides do it" issue, but I couldn't disagree more."

111. Oh, she's catching hell, and rightfully so.
"Mika, concerning what people would say about Sarah Palin if she dressed differently... whether or not she dresses in a frumpy fashion has nothing to do with how much her clothes cost. Not to be mean because she seems genuinely nice, but look at Laura Bush and ask her how much HER frumpy designer outfits cost. Look at Michelle Obama... you can go to Target or The Gap and buy the same VERY stylish stuff she wears. Good fashion doesn't have to cost a bundle.

And I really wish you'd stop with the "Barack's suits must cost thousands of dollars" thing because guess what... you don't know at ALL and you're putting that meme out there. Go find that interview the family did with one of those tabloids, ET or Access Hollywood, where the kids were there and Michelle was talking about how he's had the same suits for years.

You can't make this an equivalent thing when it just ISN'T."

I just sent that to her.
