Meet Barack Obama - Kitty!

A Bombay cat named Barack Obama sits in his cage at a "vote for your favorite DemoCat or RepubliCat" event during the CFA-Iams Cat Championship in New York, October 18, 2008. The cat show runs through the weekend at Madison Square Garden and includes show cats, trained cats and rescued cats looking for a good home. REUTERS/Chip East (UNITED STATES)

And here Obama Kitty faces his competitor - rrrrrr....hisssss:

Sharyn Hauck (R) holds her Bombay cat named Barack Obama, while Robin Beckett (L) holds her British shorthair cat named Renegade, representing John McCain, at a "vote for your favorite DemoCat or RepubliCat" event, at the CFA-Iams Cat Championship, in New York, October 18, 2008. The cat show runs through the weekend at Madison Square Garden and includes show cats, trained cats and rescued cats looking for a good home. REUTERS/Chip East (UNITED STATES)

I have to confess, if these two kitties were our actual presidential candidates, I would be one of those fabled undecided voters.

35. the Bombay's name is "Colin Powell" not Barack Obama (I was there)
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 09:27 AM by npincus
I was at the MSG cat show and voted for him, myself! my thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7531277

The Bomaby was the DemoCat, and the Bristish Shorthair (gray one) was the RepubliCat. ALL cats were gorgeous, whatever their owner's political erpsausion. But I had to vote for the DemoCat.

Here he is:

3. I used to have a black cat that looked like that....
...but he was a Manx. He had no tail, and he was the coolest cat EVER!

Oh, I still miss him.

He looked like a little bear cub, without that tail.

I called him Bob--which was very fitting. I rescued him from the shelter.

Cats are so wonderful!

7. How did the gray cat end up representing McLoser?
First off, his name should be Maverick, not Renegade. :P

Secondly, he'd have to be a mangy old stray with a bad temper, possibly FeLeuk+ (though we'd never know 'cause he wouldn't release his vet records :P )

10. There is a family of ferals behind my office
the people, mostly women, who loiter around the homeless shelter across the street seem to take care of them! Indeed, "Mama Calico" is often seen in their midst, soaking up attention...

Well, don'tcha know, one of the younger generation is a little tuxedo male (easy to discern since ferals are rarely altered :-) ). I've gotten him to come up and give me a cat fix from time to time. So...

Since he's part black, part white, was born in Hawai'i, and I love him, I named him "Barack"!

I guess I can call his calico sister (?) Hillary, since the real Hillary has stopped hissing at the real Barack...

Probably because he's been falsely labelled as a Repub - everyone knows that cats are Democrats.

in fact- I was there. The CFA-IAMS Cat Show features CFA-recognized breeds. I go every year- at MSG in NYC. Each year, concurrently with the Cat Show, in an adjacent area, with no admission fee (Cat show tix ar $15) a huge Cat Adoption gathering is held. Many (or most) of the cat rescue and shelter groups in the NY area bring their kitties (or "mutts", as you call them) and get lots of overflow from the cat show, and adopt out a lot of the darling kitties. I believe that IAMS, the same sponsor of the cat show, sponsors the adoption drive.

All the kitties-- pure breds and "mutts" alike, are beautiful, lovable, and IAMS corporation does good works.
