Elias Canetti, in his Crowds and Power, examines the manner in which the crowd--or pack--passes judgment. "Let us start," he writes, "with something familiar to all of us: the pleasure of pronouncing an unfavorable verdict." It is "a cruel pleasure, and one which never allows itself to be cheated of its object. The verdict is only a verdict if pronounced with almost unnatural assurance. There is no mercy in it ..."

Here is a glossary of the judgment passed on Sarah Palin--mostly, though not exclusively, by liberal commentators. I have curated a collection from material available on the Internet, and have provided links to each reference. There is much pleasure--and, often, displeasure--to be had from clicking through to the original sources.

<snip>

C is for Caribou Barbie, a put-down now in wide circulation, but believed to have been coined by radio host Stephanie Miller. Copyright for Christian Stepford Wife, however, rests with Cintra Wilson.

12. Actually 3 Duers came up with it within a day of each other, independently.
And I cannot remember the name of the person that was found to have written it first.. something like "ncbits".. there was a thread on this yesterday. Someone did the research and found that three of us came up with it close to the same time, but that one put it into a Haiku thread first.. If that's the case, I feel bad that they are getting left out of the credit on this. Sfexpat2000, the "ncbits" (?), and I, apparently achieved an internet mind meld that week. Though I'm not shocked that many people would come up with it.. it's kind of a no brainer.. with her penchant for killing caribout and her barbie-like qualities, and the most famous "Malibu Barbie"

But it definitely came from DU... shortly after Caribout Barbie was selected. And I couldn't be happier that it stuck!!

14. Stephanie sometimes confuses my daughter with that talentless hack Audrey.
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 03:21 PM by IanDB1
My daughter sings the "Lying sack of crap" song, and all Audrey does is say, "Charlie Rangel!"

My daughter could EAT AUDREY ALIVE!

Muhahaha!
