Modest Proposal: If Palin were smart, she'd resign from the ticket tonight.
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 12:36 PM by PCIntern
She was thrown under the bus as it were (lotta buses these days!) by McCain (see: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7504489 )

and she has now become the socio-political lightning rod for all the problems in America, including but not limited to: dumbing-down of the country, out-of-wedlock pregnancies, influence peddling, potential Secession(!), abuse-of-power, and the 'dreaded' electoral Death of the Republican Party. It would be a game-changer FOR HER to quit the ticket and move back to Alaska to take care of her State, assuming it stays a state, and her family. It would of course, destroy what is left of McCain's campaign, but it might save her bacon, and that's some lipstick on that pig.

She should perform this deed on Saturday Night Live tonight.

Come on Sarah, Do The Right Thing, as Spike Lee might say.

On edit: Please allow me to add that the term modest Proposal for those who aren't aware, arose with Jonathan Swift who suggested a modest proposal for the citizenry of Ireland to eat their own children. It was to provoke discussion and to show the endpoint of extremist philosophies and the rationale by which some attain them.

2. Isn't it too late? Voting ballots have been mailed and early voting has begun,
there's nothing McCain can do now.. He shouldn't have picked her in a game of politics.. It was stupid and irrational and just how he'd govern..

3. I'd prefer she stays on the ticket. It's helping Obama.

5. Nice Suggestion but two problems:
1.) She won't do it and McCain won't dump her: She thinks she's God's gift to the country and the GOP "base" would reduce McCain's electoral vote count to Mondalian proportions.
2.) Can you imagine how even more of a "nailbiter" this election would be if McCain had chosen a more moderate (woman) candidate for VP? Palin has, in many ways, been the greatest "gift" McCain has given Obama and the Democrats during this election season plus she has ripped open the ugly underbelly of the GOP and its most ardent supporters. That being said, however, I'm concerned that it will be difficult to stuff all that hatred and vitriol back into the bottle after the election and Obama/Biden (and the rest of us) need to do what we can to help bring the country back together.

8. she reminds me of some of the celebrities I've worked with
who are so removed from reality by their handlers-- eventually they get super paranoid and are very easy bait to be manipulated by their "entourage". I realized this in her interview the other day (the "impromptu" one on her plane) where it was revealed that her handlers keep the news away from her because it depresses her. I.E., she can't function for them when she gets a glimmer of how hated she is, so they are hiding it from her. Remember the faltering fearful look during the Couric interview? They can't have that...so they build a false reality for her and she embraces it.

that is the single worse thing she can do for her own mental health (and she really can't afford any more breaks from reality -- dinosaurs and all of that). her family knows - her kids know -- and this will cause a break in the system that is,in the long term, not fixable. that doesn't mean she won't be a candidate -- the GOP seems to dig the crazies they can manipulate-- but it does mean that her life is not going to be a nice one. All celebrities, except the truly talented, have a limited shelf life.

To see the ugliness that occurs when the cameras go away, just check out TMZ.

12. It seems she's too dumb to feel humiliated.

Seriously, anyone with an ounce of sense and a shred of sanity would be crying themselves to sleep at night, knowing they've become a national joke.

Palin, on the other hand, gives every appearance that she still, somehow, believes she's All That.

Someday, she's suddenly going to realize she's been walking around with toilet paper stuck to her ass all day long. And that all the smiling and seeming good cheer surrounding her was actually incredulous laughter.

Not gonna be a pleasant moment. :(
