Now they are handing out T-shirts
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 03:13 PM by iamthebandfanman
the mccain campaign is handing out 'im joe the plumber' t-shirts at rallies now..

i still think we should point out hes a tax evader and has no license.
i mean, if mccain wants to bank it all on one poor guy with troubles in his life... then hey, its fair game.
just another example of john mccain backing someone with no credibility and it shows a horrible lack of judgment

4. its not tho, unless the media points out this guy
is a lying, stealing, thief.
THEN its was a bad decision, because youve said you were FOR people like him.

like i say, it shows once again that mccain is irratic and has bad judgement.

3. Probably too late to counter the "Joe the Plumber" movement
It's already past the point where it can be turned around. They've made Joe into a generic term for what they classify as "working guys" without pointing out that Joe claimed he made $250,00 per/year or at least had the funds to make it happen.

I know its bullshit. I know Joe is a fraud and a maybe a plant. But the Republicans have won the battle of the Joe the Plumber meme. We need to counter it with other Joes, Kens, Erica's, Michelles, Roberts, etc. that support Obama and his tax plan. That's the only way we can shift away from Joe the Plumber.

9. That's the thing - we can't count on the media. We have to turn the narrative to our version
I have no doubt the Obama campaign is working on it because they have a whole team of strategy and marketing people on this and I'm just one guy. But our main fault is that we are asking the media to do their jobs and we all know after the past 8 years that its simply not going to happen. The only way to shape this is to turn the narrative our way by presenting our alternative to Joe the Plumber and present it to the people first, then the media.

14. All three networks last night ran stories
about JTP, citing that he isn't a plumber, owed back taxes and didn't even earn enough money to buy a business.

In fairness, they did report on it, and even before they did, all the focus groups after the debate said the JTP thing bothered them.

6. Joe doesn't actually save money under the McCain plan. He's a "symbol" of people who could save...

Someone from the McCain camp, in an interview with Norah Jones, was advised that given Joe's *actual* income and his dream, the Obama plan will be more favorable to him than the McCain plan. Beside the fact he only makes around $40k, he'll only pay a higher tax rate on *profits* over $250k, rather than being taxed on the value of the company he buys. (Joe clearly isn't very good with numbers.)

The McCain shill said that wasn't important, that Joe was a "symbol" of Americans out there who have concerns about the Obama tax plan. So, pay no attention to the fact American dreamers like Joe would actually do better under Obama. They're a symbol of why McCain's plan is better. They should be happy to pay more taxes for the prestige of their symbolic status.

19. The biggest reason this is going to backfire:
In addition to all the above stated reasons:

Joe asked that he be left alone today.

I doubt he is going to like becoming the poster boy for the McCain campaign.
