6. It happened, it just backfired.

That's what the bailout crisis was about. The timing, anyway--the crisis is real enough, but it's been happening for years, so the sudden fear campaign was political.

BushCo expected McCain to jet back to Washington, show his tremendous leadership and selfless patriotism by suspending his campaign, and make everyone all terrified of electing someone without experience. Problem is, it backfired as people blamed BushCo and McCain for the crisis and solidified their desire for a leadership change. Even people who don't trust or care for Obama are voting for him because he's not the party who caused the problems.

So there was the surprise. SURPRISE!
