I wrote Saturday Nite Live that I'm boycotting their show this Saturday for having Sarah Palin
If you are in agreement with this post, please K & R it.

I just found out SNL will be having Sarah Palin on the show this Saturday nite. The woman is a walking bag of corruption, a liar who has provoked audiences to threaten Obama, and an ignoramus, and SNL is giving her a chance to charm.

Well, SNL is free to do that, but I'm free to boycott them and boycott their products.

If you would like to do the same, drop Saturday Nite Live a line here:

http://www.nbc.com/Footer/Contact_Us/

(Remember that you must select Saturday Nite Live from the drop-down menu).

There's nothing programs won't do for ratings. I'm afraid one of these days they're going to broadcast people killing one another in order to get a large viewing audience.

Thanks.

18. I have to level with you: They had on the executive of SNL on MSNBC, they're clueless.
Until we de-consolidate the media we are destine for pablum. The OWNERS now make far too many of the creative decisions - other than the Palin skit, SNL is not, IMO, all that funny.

133. You can't boycott something that is free. That isn't how boycotts work.
This is a common misconception about television: Viewers are not the customer. Advertisers are the customer. Since we aren't the customer we can't effectively boycott NBC any more than cows could boycott McDonald's.

Viewers get sold by the networks to advertisers.

Rosa Parks rallied customers to boycott the bus system until their policies were changed. That is the way a boycott works.

120. Yep, just as narrow minded as the Freepers.
Frankly, both sides scare me. The hate I witnessed during the primaries against a fellow Democrat soured me to the LW blogs. I found out the hard way that they were as intolerant as the conservatives I derided for years.

Yep, a real eye opener.

12. snl is racist
I just watched this SNL with some white guy playing jesse jackson. the white jesse jackson gave poll results saying 87% of respondents said that they would vote for a black prez. when asked again if they "really" would vote for a black guy, only 30% said yes. they call this the bradley effect. the reporter than asks jackson, "would the racism come through in the voting booth" the white jackson responds "absolutely." I just saw it on tv and wish I could give better details but I found it highly offensive. Like I said, it just came on TV on channel 4 at about 9:52pm on 10/16/2008. highly suggestive.

30. Why?
If your boycott is successful the only option they have is to ban all political guests from their show. Then, they'll have to ban people who have made their political leanings known. Then they'll have to ban all people they think might have political leanings. Next they'll have to do religions and finally they'll ban anybody who puts forward an opinion on anything whatsoever.

47. My note to NBC at that link
Subject: Sarah Palin? Are you nuts?

The future of the freaking world is hanging in the balance, and you're going to give free publicity to a walking contradiction, an affront to women, a lying corrupt secessionist, a nasty Rapture-craving fundamentalist, a "buy your own rape kits" women's right hater?

That kind of insertion of what must apparently be your own personal political agenda isn't funny, it's sick.

We're mired in a willful occupation of aggression that's costing $10 billion a month, the government is forking out $700 billion to salve the egos of a few rich bankers, the United States Supreme Court has already been tilted to the crackpot fundamentalist side by eight years of the Unelected Usurper, and you're going to force-feed someone who kills tiny wolf puppies to your young and impressionable audience when that group is registering to vote like never before in this election.

This has got to be the most irresponsible use of the public airwaves I have ever heard of. Too bad Reagan destroyed the Fairness Doctrine, because what you're giving is 90 minutes of political right-wing propaganda toward the future complete destruction of our society under John "Keating Five" McCain and Sarah "Mooselini" Palin.

I am saddened and appalled at your recklessness.

Please reconsider.

Sincerely,
(name)

57. Sarah Paylin & Tina Faye
Ms. Ibarruri,
I understand your anger at SNL, but just remember.. SNL will be running a spoof and poking fun at Sarah Paylin. Paylin is such a fool to go on SNL and the SNL producers know this. They will not treat her kindly. If I'm wrong then you'd be right to boycott SNL, but just you watch the fool they make of her. I consider this an opportunity to expose her for who she is... and now we will just have to watch and see...

... Sarah Palin has spent the past few weeks lying about Obama, provoking people to threaten Obama, and they're going to bring her into the fold to poke a li'l sweet fun at herself. It's so delightful.

Well, they're free to do that, and I'm free to boycott them. I guess that's what freedom is about isn't it?

They're doing this to get ratings. They're whores for ratings who will honestly do *ANYTHING* to get ratings.

60. Personally, I love political comedy on SNL.
And Weekend Update is my favorite part of the show!

So what if Palin is on? I agree she's awful, but I say the American people already proved smart enough to see that. (As proven by her rising negative and McCain's sinking campaign!)

I have to agree with the poster who said that this type of thing could lead to no politicians on the show. Much as I didn't like the man, when George H.W. Bush showed up and surprised Dana Carvey it was a classic moment. I loved seeing Hillary on as well. Frankly, I'm not sure she's bright enough not to screw this up, too.

Of course you have the right not to watch, but a boycott seems a bit much.

72. Same here

SNL has had political figures do cameos for its entire existence.

They had the real Hillary Clinton on while making fun of the "cackling", which some considered sexist.

Sarah Palin is a political figure, like it or not. I don't get the big deal. Now, if she comes on and tears up a picture of the Pope, like Sinead O'Connor did, YouTube will not be able to handle the load.

75. Oh for fuck's sake!
It's Fucking Saturday Night Live! They make fun of politicians. All of them. It's what they do. And inevitably, the politicians make an appearance to prove that they can laugh at themselves. Remember when Hillary did it during the primaries? Remember when Obama did it earlier last season? How many times has Gore been on? Hell, Gerald Ford was on in the first fucking season! It's practically a tradition for politicians to do SNL. And unfortunately, not all politicians are democrats (this board would be pretty fucking boring if they were--"Aren't things great? They sure are. What am I gonna do with all this extra money?").

They're free to have on whoever they want, and you're free to boycott them. But I'm free to tell you to get over yourself. Fucking please. Get over yourself.

It is a complete outrage that SNL is going to give a platform for this horrible mockery of a politician to, once again, act like Jane Everyman while she spews hatred from the podium and hides from the actual news media. This will be the best advertisement that Failin could get, and NBC is probably paying HER for it.

I wish that there was something we could do that would be, you know, effective.

Given Tina Fey's desire NOT to have to parody this woman past 11/4, I just can't believe SNL would agree to this. I really can't picture Tina doing Sarah Palin, then suddenly the real Sarah Palin walking on set, with the two of them yukking it up.

What makes you think that they won't do it again, with her there in the flesh to take part? Geez, people around here are so fickle for the stupidest reasons. Two weeks ago SNL was comedy genius with Tina Fey. Now that they've decided to take it to the next level, with Palin live and in person, all the sudden somehow SNL is turning into a RW shill:crazy: I don't get it. Yes, it gives Palin exposure, but is it really going to be positive exposure, since she'll probably get her ass handed to her live and in color.

139. Thanks. I wrote them.
I wrote them as follows:

I've watched virtually every episode of SNL since Chevy first fell off the ladder, most of them more than once. I will not watch the Palin episode, because unlike all other politicians who have been on the show, she is not available for interviews or shows like MTP. When she's sat for MTP, and with Brian Williams, and on MSNBC, then I will watch her on SNL. But not before. Sorry, but I can't support your decision in this. You'll have to do it without me and without a lot of unhappy boomers I know.
