3. i hope so....
an average person has a threshold for shameful behavior...and palin causes that threshold to be crossed by many 'non-involved' voters...

keep it up, m.c.johnny & moosegirl...your 'base' love it...and it repulses everyone else...

5. Yep, he emboldened them further last night, probably in two ways:
1) he sucked royally, which will piss them off and push them further into lie and smear mode since their candidates a pathetic; and 2) as you said, he said his supporters are patriotic Americans and he's proud of them, so they will continue to do what they do: spew hatred!

Way to go, McCain!!! You're makin' your party proud...you betcha.

7. McCain and Palin are drawing the lunatic fringe of the GOP --
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 08:01 AM by Old Crusoe
the people who are foaming at the mouth and stomping their feet. The screamers, the chanters, the heads-up-their-asses types from the Cave of the Un-citizens.

That's the base McCain has to work with at this point. Even the run-of-the-mill fundies know this one is a lost cause.

I expect the Republican rallies from this point forward to be an odd mix of fire-belching crazies and despondent automatons.

8. I think they will...

But my reasoning is a bit different. I think McCain has pretty much given up hope of winning. On the other hand Palin is viciously, virulently ambitious. She thinks she knows "how to win this thing" and is going to go at it hammer and tongs. She's listened to her own press (and her own inflated ego) a bit too much and sees herself as the next big Repub star. She knows McCain is a loser, and she knows she is going down with him, so she is going to distance herself from him and do her own thang... her own thang being lotsa hate, lotsa lies, lotsa snark and a wink or two to leaven the lot.

Heaven help us.

10. Failin has begun her 2012 campaign.
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 08:06 AM by stolivodka
Being an out of touch provincial, Palin probably thinks that her "message" of hate and divisiveness is mainstream. She'll grind her culture war axe relentlessly, because, let's face it, what else could she do? Start a meaningful dialogue regarding the issues? Hah, she can't even tell the difference between east and west.

11. I hope they do so that the Secret Service can continue their investigation.
If Mooselini continues, we should file a collective action lawsuit or some kind of defamation suit against her. Also, she should be held legally and criminally responsible for inciting violence against a sitting elected official if it--God forbid--incites rioting or hate crimes.

13. I believe it and it is simply frightening.
McCain never had any intention of running an honorable campaign. Like I mentioned in another thread, he's going to stoke the flames of anger like there's nothing to lose. And his adherents are going to be extremely angry as if there is nothing to lose--if the al Jazeera footage is a sample of what's going on during those rallies.
