I don't like those "sit down" debates...too informal or something.

I don't know why, exactly, I just like them to be more adversarial.

1. Let's look to see
whether McCain's feet reach the floor or not. I think he's going to look very small sitting there next to Obama.

6. Nah! He'll be sitting on the NYC Yellow Pages
After I outgrew my high-chair, my mom had me sitting on the Broward County phone book for several years at the dinner table.

11. You betchha! Back in the 60s
...that was the cheap and easy way to pull the 3-6 y.o. up to the dinner table. Too bad we won't see that his feet won't hit the floor by several inches. I loved the last debate with the stools. In order to sit in his, he would've had to take a big jump up, and his feet would've been left swinging, all the while Obama's stool seemed to be to short for him to comfortably sit in.

I need to preface this, that I'm barely 5'2", my husband is 5'6ish, so I'm not being snarky about being short. However, politics aside, Obama is just prettier, and he would still be even if he was short.

3. McCain's brain will become oxygen deprived because his blood will pool in his ass.
He'll be totally incoherent. Either that or he'll be talking out of his ass.

Not sure which.

8. I hate it too.
A podium is fine, I guess. It looks lazy and "old boys club-ish" to just sit around.

9. It's gonna be great. McCain will look awful in closeups.
He'll have on so much makeup he won't be able to move a muscle.

Plus, look how he avoids Obama from a distance. He's going to have a real problem close-up. He'll have the nervous creepy smile and the uncomfortable jokes.

He's going to lose more points tonite than any of the other debates.

10. Seated debates are a joke
They almost never allow for direct confrontation. The only way you lose a sit down debate is to be too meek and allow the other guy to dictate, like Gore and Lieberman both managed in 2000.

In this case it works in our favor with a substantial lead. McCain is going to be forced to be civil and that forced grin at close range looks ridiculous in a seated debate.

Actually, McCain was more combative than normal in a seated debate vs. Romney in the final Florida debate, a few days before that primary. He put Romney on the defensive, complaining about McCain's assertion that Romney favored a timetable for withdrawing from Iraq.

A younger, more telegenic, and better postured guy like Obama has natural advantage seated alongside awkward McCain.
