A mixed race candidate touting his multicultural roots.

Organization on a grassroots levels.

Up-to-date, high-level media production.

Internet updates as a means to keep people involved.

Lightning-fast response time to smears and allegations.

Overwhelmingly positive, immediately recognizable slogans, imagery, and logo.

The reason why John can't win is because his campaign is stuck in the last century, along with his politics. From now on, Obama/Biden '08 will be the template for how successful campaigns are run.

And if I know Obama, he'll take all of this with him when he enters the White House.

1. You gave me goosebumps. The good kind. It is truly amazing.
Just the thought of a president who looks at all angles, gets great advice, and then acts accordingly is wonderful. We haven't had that in 8 long years.

3. He's such a one-man melting pot that he's gonna take ALL of us with him when he enters
the White House. I LOVE that thought!

I've felt for some time that another appealing way to frame this is to say "let's re-start the 21st Century." THIS is the actual beginning, especially if it also includes a body blow to the old reagan/free-market ways. We've done it their way for AT LEAST seven-and-some years with bush in the White House. And look where we are. Look what and where it's gotten us. Look at the RESULTS of doing it their way! Even longer than that, if you take into account the deliberate blockade the republi-CONS in Congress went at from the moment Bill Clinton dared to step into the Oval Office in early 1993. Even longer, still, if you trace it back to the birth of the modern CONservative movement with the dawn of the ronald reagan era (when all these monsters like newt gingrich and his pals rode on in reagan's coattails and took over Congress).

So this past eight years (once bush finally leaves) is a fitting conclusion to the latter part of the 20th Century. Indeed, the payoff. A mindbogglingly dreadful payoff, at that. We close a final chapter with the hoped-for victory of Barack Obama. THAT'S when the 21st Century really begins. As Bill Clinton put it - we did have to cross a bridge to the 21st Century, after all, didn't we? The toxic dump that bridge spanned was the dubya era.

It would also help, psychologically, to invite people to utterly nullify the last seven-and-some years, at least in their own minds. The bush 2 years need to be viewed as a TOTAL aberration, a HUGE mistake, a COLOSSAL blunder that we need to step over as we move forward, in much the same way that one must step over a steaming pile of dog shit that blocks one's path on the sidewalk ahead. Like a bender we all went on in which we wrecked the car (and several other people's), put a lot of people in the hospital, ransacked the house, and set fire to the neighborhood - and then finally woke up from our zombie coma-curse. It needs to be framed that way - as a lapse of sheer madness on the part of the American people, rendered so distasteful that it becomes a cautionary tale for the future - not to mention the residual benefit of thoroughly pissing on the name "bush" so we will not run the risk of another bush moving into the White House, God help us all! We MUST start shaping people's minds and thinking in this way, the better to guard against something this awful, with people this awful, with a collective mindset this awful, and an agenda this awful, ever plaguing us again.

There was this great quote I heard from a man named Chuck Rice on "The Verdict with Dan Abrams" - back on June 6th that really summed it up for me, while riffing on that infamous bit of low-information voter stupidity - "gee, I like him! I could go have a beer with him!" "This is what happens when you elect your drinking buddy to be president." UTTERLY TRUE!

10. "...help, psychologically, to invite people to utterly nullify the last seven-and-some years..."
Yep.

A psychological aid to transition; a guidestone; a reconnecting.

A repudiation; a caveat.

Honestly, the phrase intuitively said all of that to me in an instant, which is why I reacted so spontaneously. It's very forward-looking, and at the same time says, "let's get back on track", and not be led astray again. It's a lot like Obama and his campaign. It's not divisive; those who can't awaken from the coma are eternally lost anyway. Most everyone else will be relieved and happy to get on with things, and would like to feel like there's something to look forward to for a change.

You should maybe consider posting this as an OP. Others may not share my enthusiasm, but to them I say, don't underestimate the potential of a simple phrase.

Let's restart the 21st Century.

15. We had a debate party tonight and I tried it out - "let's hit the 'Restart' button!"
"Let's hit the 'Restart' button on the 21st Century!" They liked it!

Glad you did, too!

12. Cell phone text messages, voter registration drives
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 07:07 PM by rainbow4321
The last one I volunteered at we had this lady come up to our table. She said she was glad we had a registration booth at our city's International Festival because "I got that text that Barack Obama sent reminding us to register to vote but I just hadn't been able to do it yet..so I am so glad I ran into the booth here today". Funny part..the drive that was all organized thru his website and that is how us volunteers there that day had signed up. We were set up as a nonpartisan registration table so it's not like we had any evidence of who we all supported...her comment had us all grinning when she walked away.
