Sarah Palin: The Lowest Common Denominator

Sarah Palin. You shameful embarrassment of a human being! You disgusting example of an American. You don’t love this country. You love yourself and the adoration of the crowds. You love the attention and sense of power and entitlement.

But you do not love this country.

Friday night I cried really hard. Obama is up in all the polls and your campaign is in the tank, so why the tears?

Because I LOVE THIS COUNTRY and I saw you, Sarah Palin, reduce it to the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR—hate filled crowds of racists.

Every channel I turned to, there you were spewing filth and hatred among conservatives. You smirk incessantly as you pump and prime the crowds with rhetorical conflation of half truths . You not only allow but encourage the violent escalation of rhetoric among the crowds. “Treason!” “Terrorist!” “Kill Him!” “Off with his Head” “Bomb Obama!” and “A-rab!” are just a few of the gems heard making your rallies look more like lynch mobs than rightful democratic assemblies. And that’s ‘democratic’ in the first sense of the word, in case you have to look that one up.

At no point do you even feign disapproval or displeasure at what your spurious attacks have incited people to say and do. You nod ‘sagely’ while fear-mongering surrogates repeat Obama’s middle name stoking real and present fear in our nation and slickly linking Obama’s name to it.

How dare you? You are unfit to govern. You are unfit to lead anyone including your pack of feral followers. Are you more Faustian Demagogue or Procrustean Dictator?

I have a degree in Political Science and another in the History of International Relations, but I don’t need either of those things to see the shocking similarities between you and vile historical figures of the past.

Hmmmm….let me see, can you think of someone “ruthless and energetic enough to make a clean sweep,” whose nationalism relied on fear mongering, propaganda and censorship of subversives to promote the Italian nation during World War II.

No? An easier one? Ok, how about the French Revolutionary who incited conflict between rival political factions and appointed himself head of a condemnation court with no writ of habeas corpus or the like?

Still no? How about the dictator who used the lectern to feed scapegoats to his country after an devastating economic downturn, who fanned the flames of fear until they incinerated 6 million people who differed in creed or coloring? Nothing?

Last one, Sarah: A Senator whose name is now synonymous with “demagogic, reckless, and unsubstantiated accusations and public attacks on the character or patriotism of political opponents.”

Nada, eh? I guess you missed those history classes while you were flitting through 6 different universities trying to finally get a degree.

Well maybe you should start with a simpler question: You say “We won’t allow another holocaust.” But aren’t you laying the groundwork for it already? If not for the Jews, which you’ve plenty slighted, then for the “A-rabs”? Or are you going to be merely satisfied when one of your uncontrollable crowds “Bombs” a black congregation or abortion clinic. Or are you going to continue politicking to the lowest common denominator, handing out torches and then standing at the pulpit fanning the flames?
