California Absentee Ballot info
If you are voting absentee, check with the post office to make sure you have adequate postage. My single page ballot just took 17 cents more than standard postage!

Mods, please leave this in this forum. More people will see it. Thanks.

1. Our county put a notice in ours that it would require 51 cents postage
I delivered it to the elections office myself instead of mailing it. They told me I was the first voter in the county.

4. I already mailed mine
there's plenty of time for it to be returned since I have my return address on it. I hope so anyway.

5. I always carry mine in on election day and drop it in the box myself.

I don't totally trust that it will be counted, even if it makes it through the mail, if you know what I mean. (I live in Riverside County. :scared:)

6. I do the same - however be careful
I vote in every election this way - and last week the Obama campaign had me listed as not voting in one of the past 4 elections...

14. Don't worry, I checked my registration numerous times.
And we've already received our absentee ballots, so we're ready to go. :)

7. The envelope really should say what the req'd postage is...everyone's should be the same weight/size
Instead it just says, "use adequate postage." I'm sure a lot of voters just stick one first class stamp on it, assuming it's the regular letter rate. :-(

8. That's what mine said
and I got suspicious. I sent this notice to all my friends and clients. One client e-mailed back that his envelope said "use first class postage."

I've checked this for the last 3 or 4 elections and those have all gone for the standard first class postage. I suspect, this being California and all, that the P.O. will honor standard first class postage.

9. Not everyone's ballot will be the same weight and size
We only had one measure on ours, but some ballots may have more than one measure which might take it to two pages or print front and back. Amazing what a little extra ink can weigh.

12. By county though, the postage should be the same
The return envelopes for my county are printed with barcodes and other information (postmark by ...) that are specific to that election. And everyone in the county should have & return the same number of ballot pages too. It seems they should be able to estimate adequate return postage for that ballot and print that on the envelope too.

I need to go bitch to my county elections office now. }(

13. I agree with you
Although, personally, I think all ballots nationwide should require the same postage, whatever the size or weight of the ballot. Put a stamp on it and mail. Period.

10. My California ballot (San Bernardino County)
Has a vote by mail instructions card inside that says

Your ballot requires 59 cents in postage.

Use a black ball point pen
Connect the arrow like the example provided

Please don't use felt tip pens

Don't use any color other than black

11. The thing is--each county ballot is different
My ballot is actually 2 cards, not one.

I just voted for Obama/Biden and our local dems. There are tons of propositions and local issues. I have to do some research before voting on these.
