3 solid Republicans can't decide how to vote! (thanks, Sarah!)
My favorite cousin, her husband, and another cousin, all at a family event. Favorite cousins & husband are rich beyond belief - the sort of people who you can understand why they vote Republican, because honestly, it's in their best financial interest. The other cousin is working lower middle class - probably a "pro-life" voter, completely voting against her own economic interests. All three said they were solid McCain.....until he picked Palin. Now they don't know what to do.

The rich ones said they were worried about having a President and two houses of Congress all one party (probably not a problem for them during 6 out of the past 8 years). The other one just despises Palin.

But hell - if we get ONE of them - that's one more than would have EVER voted Democratic otherwise.

The Palin pick is NOT popular here in the Northeast, where the Christian Right has very little support. It's turning off previously solid Republicans.

Thanks Sarah! :hi:

1. I would have to think that if the other cousin

is a "Pro Life" one-issue voter, she probably wouldn't despise Palin. That crowd seems to be her base.

2. Pro-life but look at how irresponsible she is with her kids.
That airplane trip she took back to Alaska when she was in labor is crazy.

5. If you allow me to say this without flaming me: I am very concerned
about that airplane trip.
A woman who had her water break needs nothing but a hospital. Immediately.

She knew her child was mongoloid.

She endangered that child on purpose.

3. Next time they express concern
about the President and both houses of Congress being one party, DO ask them how much it bothered them for those six years. And push them a little on it. Not meanly, not rudely, but in a way to get them to understand how much those six years might have a) bothered you, and b) been a problem. It sounds as if you can actually talk to these relatives, and that's good.

4. Well, again, I think their key driver is their enormous wealth
Which, as we all know, we don't talk about in this country. Everyone else in our family is solidly middle-middle-middle class, and we're all a little confused by these two, who are just about as far into the upper class as you can get in this country.

You're right, I should have said something about the 6 years. But the fact that they're even wavering is.....just wow.

They were in very McCain friendly territory - a whole lot of elderly Catholics, very "pro-life". So they could have said "we're voting McCain", but they didn't - I think they were honestly wavering. (I didn't say a word about my own activities)

Unfortunately, even if they do see the Light - they're New Yorkers, so not a big deal. Same with the poorer one - I'm pretty sure we're going to be able to deliver PA with or without her, but the fact that these three solid Republicans are that put off by Palin is pretty exciting to me.

6. I get what you mean about they

are very rich, and so voting Republican is actually in their best interest. My ex has brothers who fit that category, so I understand. But if you get a chance to ask them, please post their responses here. Or simply keep us up on what they say.

Oh, and for the relatives who are wavering, perhaps something you can say will push them to vote for Obama. As for the "pro-life" elderly relatives, could they be persuaded by informing them that abortions have actually increased under Bush?

7. Heh, the religious right is so little here that they bus in abortion protesters.
God Bless New England. The Abortion clinics in Connecticut that get the rare protest have people bussed in from central PA! They have to pay them and bus them in! BAWHAHA:rofl:
