"Why is the race so close?!!!"
It's not. Obama is up an average of 7.5% and gaining every day. Just for the sake of comparison Bush Sr. beat Dukakis by 7.7 points. Reagan beat Carter by 9.7 with Anderson taking more from Carter than Reagan. Clinton only won by 5.8 the first go around. This isn't close folks.

2. I was thinking about this in the tub tonight and my conclusion is
that if Obama were white he would be ahead by about 15+ percentage points. America is still very racist but we, thankfully, are making progress.

5. Hell.. even if he were black, but
his name was "William Smith" instead of Barack Obama.. he'd be ahead by 10.

The fact that he's up by 7 is a testament to how far we've come in 60 years.. far, but certainly not nearly far enough.

Obama winning this race will do more for racial tensions in this country then any law ever could.

The Freepers are going to be really sad when Obama does a better job governing this country then the white idiot has for the last 8 years.

7. I was listening to cspan and the author (and college professor)
who was speaking said that this generation seems to be very color blind. That give me such hope. He was previously in NO and is now in Houston at Rice (Brinkley who wrote the Great Deluge)so it is not as if he is in NY or California.

14. I know.. as soon as I typed that, I thought
Will Smith would play one bad-ass Obama. Michelle Obama played by Halle Berry.. it would be an awesome movie. ;)

3. Times and circumstances are different now, but
never forget that Dukakis had a 17 pt lead in opinion polls right before the Willie Horton ads came out.

Totally different time of the campaign.
That's not a relevant comparison now.

4. And I still ask "why is the race so close?"
Of course if I had my way Obama would be up by about 30%

19. It didn't translate well--
The media is going out of its way to avoid pointing out that Obama is way ahead and that Mc*'s campaign is done. Your post read (to me) as, "Why are they saying that this race is so close? It isn't!"

11. Some expert on TV the other night pointed out that no candidate with
an R or a D after their name EVER gets below 41%. McCain has bottomed out. It isn't close.

12. I believe that Obama will be the first democrat to win the WH w/ over 50% of the vote since Carter
and I believe he will win the biggest democratic victory since LBJ in 1964.
