I finally figured it out!
The McCain campaign was a piece of performance art, acted out on the biggest stage in world history!

Man, they sure took me for a ride. It's like back in college when you saw one of those really weird girls with about 30 piercings and a shaved head slice her abdomen with a deer knife and use the blood to write "my blood, my body" on the sidewalk. You thought to yourself "What the hell??" But then you realized that she was just some kid who desperately craved attention after spending the first 18 years of her life ignored by her big-shot dad and heavily sedated mother.

Turns out John McCain himself was just craving attention, and he ran the most bizarre campaign in US history to get it. Picking Palin was of course the strangest part, but this past week has also been pretty fucking weird. First, he whipped the bottom twenty percent into a teaming mass of rage, and then today -- just when they were ready to burst and unleash hell on the rest of the country -- he pulled the rug out from under them. Have you ever seen a crowd so disappointed as when John McCain told them that Barack Obama is not an A-rab? I sure haven't.

Say what you will about John McCain. Completely off his rocker? Sure. But he's one hell of a showman.

1. Well I will be glad when the final curtain closes.
The actor and actress were lousy.

2. True. But it's been entertaining while it lasted.
It's kinda like watching an episode of Cops. The human misery is almost too much to take, but it's also strangely captivating.

3. I don't think it's because McCain is a showman.
We watch him for the same reason people driving slow down to look at a wreck.

4. I wouldn't give him that much credit but pleased and relieved he did try to pacify his audience.

5. I'm not really giving him credit. I think he's still flailing wildly, trying to fight the
inevitable fall into oblivion. And I wouldn't be surprised if he starts egging them on again tomorrow.

But, purely from a standpoint of entertainment value, I have to give John McCain an A+.

He has single-handedly orchestrated the biggest train wreck in modern campaign history.

6. Well, intentional or not, he's created a very interesting wreck.
