HILARIOUS photo of pro-Bush protesters in Springfield, Ohio last night!!
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 07:04 PM by VolcanoJen
Look at the orange sign... do we have a new "moran"?

And, keep in mind that these kids are members of the Wittenberg College Student Republicans. :eyes: I hope, for her own sake, that the gal holding up the flip-flops on the right isn't studying art...

This photo is from the "Midnight Rally" in Springfield, Ohio, where Kerry and Edwards appeared just after Bush's RNC nomination speech.

Almost every shot I see of young republicans looks like a picture of every overprivileged little asshole I went to high school with. They all look like the shitheads who beat up on the freshmen and bragged about date-raping cheerleaders.

I mean, look at these people!! Is this the face of America YOU would choose? Smug, white, rich, and overfed?

7. Well, if they're going to Wittenberg College....
... there's a much-better-than-average chance that they're very well-off kids.

Wittenberg is one of the most, if not the most, expensive private colleges in Ohio.

3. Witt is actually pretty cheap for me.
4. This University also happens to be really liberal.
5. The surrounding area is mainly farms (aside from Yellow Springs).
6. Those are the only people who turned out for that.
7. I know the girl with the large flipflops (center) and the chick to the right. Their combined IQ is smaller than my shoe size.
8. I'm friends with the guy second from the left.

Well, I went to Ohio University; I'm more a public state college kinda gal, especially when you live in a great state like ours with so many excellent state universities. Wittenberg is a prestigious school, but was certainly out of my financial reach, even with scholarships.

Please tell me the kid with the orange sign isn't an English major, and then tell me the chick with the big flip-flops on the right isn't an Art student, and I'll feel better. :-)

Welcome to DU, Pert! I'm sure you won't be surprised to learn that our crowd here is voting for John Kerry, not Michael Badnarik.

28. Woah, you are totally off-base, bucko!
Not only are a lot of my family from Ohio, but my favorite band, Guided by Voices, is from Dayton. In fact, I could make a list right now of all the great bands that have come from Ohio right now off the top of my head:

The Raspberries
Rocket From the Toms
The Dead Boys
Pere Ubu
Devo
Tin Huey
Poobah
Granicus
EdfromOhio (from fIREHOSE)
The Rubber City Rebels
Crissie Hynde
The Ohio Players
etc. etc.

Uh, not to mention the Air industry was insituted there.

Your comments are totally off-base, sir.

Weren't they a bubble gum band in the 70's? As to Crissie Hynde she dissed Ohio big time in one of her songs.

Don't get me wrong. I've never been to Ohio so I'm not putting it down or praising it. Just making an observation.

52. The Raspberries were great.
At least I think so. Probably the first Power-Pop band, if one doesn't count Badfinger.

And Chrissie Hynde dissed the corporate fucks who destroyed Akron ("My City Was Gone") not the state herself.

I've only been to Ohio once, but a lot of my family is from Hamilton, Ohio, and GbV is from there, so I get a little defensive.

ALSO:

The Strapping Fieldhands
Mike Rep
Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments

Not to mention lots of doo-wop and R&B from Cleveland. And "WKRP in Cincinatti," dammit!

... at any rate, I guess you've not spent a lot of time in northern and northeastern Ohio... the Cleveland/Akron/Canton/Youngstown area. About as working class yellow dog Dem as it gets.

Down in southwestern Ohio, it's more Republican, but not by that much, really. People have certainly been more vocal about their Democratic leanings around here lately, and I see about the same amount of Kerry/Edwards yard signs as Bush/Cheney.

The Buckeye State has a lot going for it, and I'm proud to call it my home. I've spent many, many happy years here, and hope to spend many more.

I'd suggest writing "Bush/Cheney: FOUR MORE YEARS!" on your sign if that's the message you're trying to convey.

Or, kill two birds with one clever stone by writing "Bush 4 President!" Then, maybe political message boards like this one won't spend the next few days pointing and laughing at you. Just a thought.

And that's the last piece of advice I'll offer to any Bushie between now and November 2. :-)

24. I wrote the college's english department.
Hello,

At a recent John Kerry and John Edwards rally, a few students later identified as "Wittenberg College Student Republicans" held up Bush and Cheney signs. One somewhat creative (and hopefully sober?) individual even made up his own sign, "Bush four President". I am curious, shouldn't a college student know how to spell properly? What does that say about the class of students allowed to "study" at Wittenberg College?

It's bad enough we are subjected to some confused and unattractive Wittenberg females holding up "flip flops" in a desperate effort to impress their fellow republicans, but that pathetic massacre of the english language by that limited young gentleman is a travesty.

I am evil. :)

I was there--I shook hands and spoke with John Kerry for exactly 3.4 seconds. He saw my Wittenberg shirt, asked what I studied, and said great. It was so cool. I also loved when our county commissioner, a man who was paralysed in Vietnam when a sniper shot him in the back, held up his Purple Heart and praised those who have been injured in combat.

I was in the blue ticket area and had great views and took great photos.

79. That is so funny
It reminds me of protesting the Iraq war last year, this girl drove up in a big pick-up truck and screamed, "Why don't you move to CANADA if you don't like it here!!!"

My husband laughed and said, "OK, why don't you join the army and go to Iraq if you support the war so much?" She couldn't think of a comeback to that and just got this furious look on her face and drove away in a big huff.

85. Worked in Dayton....
...as I just posted, that rejoinder worked at the Cheney protest, when the wise asses came out of the convention center talking garbage to the veterans and union guys they walked past.

Kids shut the hell up real quick and picked up their pace...away from us.

55. Outstanding catch, Jen. Even if the guy is trying to be clever, he missed!
No matter how you slice it, the use of the word "four" on that sign is **lame**.

Possibilities:
1) Bad spelling (a la "Moran"). This is not good, obviously.
2) Trying to be clever, as in "four years." Well, someone should have informed that guy that it doesn't work -- it still reads like a mispelled word.

Lose-lose.

:toast: :bounce: Thanks, Jen, for a walk on the lighter side! :bounce: :toast:

61. Art Department?
Come on, we know Republicans don't understand the arts.

Them not understanding English is a little bit of a surprise however.

80. Touche'
Still, with all of them demanding that it be the only language spoken in this country, you would think that they themselves would be able to speak it.

66. This is destined to become a classic.
We missed the sign last night. I asked Sara if she wanted to go heckle the protesters - but after 5+ hours on our feet, we just wanted to get some food and drive home...

Ya know, it is the hardest to see young people supporting Bush.

70. Update...............
Received some replies back from the University. One letter is being forwarded to the President of the University ;) and the other was answered by a KERRY supporter!!!!!! :bounce:

Nice person reminded me that there were WAY more people from the University who showed up to support Kerry than there were anti-Bush people. They just got their picture taken because they were all together, and the Kerry folk were off helping others and being busy, etc.

Not what I expected...... haha :D
