4. Harding and Coolidge
presided over the credit fueled prosperity of the 20's. They allowed Wall St. to run amok and did nothing to stop them...sort of like, well, Bush. McSame would be Hoover if elected. Hopefully we will move past that part of history and start right off with FDR.

Hoover was a smart man. Self-made. Graduated from Stanford and became a mining engineer. Translated 'De Re Metallica' from Latin to English and it remains the definitive translation of the work. Spoke Chinese fluently. Successfully administered hunger relief after World War I in Eastern Europe.

No, Hoover was not as stupid as Sen. 894/899. Hoover's problem was that before his time, government had never done any market regulation or economic stimulus, and he got into a blind spot where he wasn't about to start.
