Did Crazy Old Zell Represent What Republicans Think?
"Laura Bush, asked about Miller’s speech, said in an interview with NBC News that "I don’t know that we share that point of view." Aides to President Bush and his campaign said Miller was not speaking for all Republicans. "

Certainly they wouldn’t lie to us, would they? (snicker)
"FOX News Channel's post-convention panel largely praised Miller's speech; anchor Brit Hume said he "liked" Miller's suggestion that Kerry "was going to arm the country with spitballs."...FOX panelists ignored Miller's distortions and inconsistencies on the issue. Weekly Standard executive editor and FOX News contributor Fred Barnes agreed with Miller that Kerry's voting record proves he was weak on defense: "I think the hard part for Kerry is when all the -- and we heard it from Zell Miller, we heard it from Cheney -- when Republicans give this litany of votes, culminating not in the Gulf War vote but in the $87 billion vote just this past year against money for the troops in Iraq."
The context of Kerry's votes didn't matter to William Kristol, Weekly Standard editor and FOX News contributor; rather, he insisted, "(I)t's a consistent pattern. It's not a made-up, one gotcha vote on an obscure appropriations bill.
Roll Call executive editor and FOX News contributor Morton M. Kondracke agreed that "everything was legitimate that they said and that Kerry was vulnerable on every point" and that they had "exposed his 20-year record," though he opined that "Miller went over the line into demagoguery" at one point:"

"On September 2, radio host Rush Limbaugh dedicated almost half of the three-hour Rush Limbaugh Show to replaying portions of Senator Zell Miller's (D-GA) September 1 speech at the Republican National Convention. During this time, Limbaugh repeatedly heaped praise on the senator.
Zell Miller owned the night. Hurricane Zell arrived in New York at 10:01 p.m. last night and just left the place in shambles. And he left the media in shambles."

"I'M A ZELL-OT
For the record, I don't think there will be a more compelling speech given this fall on Bush's behalf than the one Zell Miller delivered last night. He would surely resent the comparison, but Zell blitzkrieged Kerry like Sherman did Atlanta. I kept thinking last night: this is like listening to my dad in 1979, when the rage and contempt we Southerners felt toward Jimmy Carter for his weakness, which brought on national humiliation, drove so many Democrats to the Reagan camp. If you ask me, I think Zell just dug up the stinking corpse of the effete Carter presidency, and rubbed it all over John Kerry."

AND this pecuilar bit of gibberish from the same place:

"ZELL
He's got his head and his heart wired together for some full tilt boogie for freedom and justice."

(Scroll about a third of the way down)

Boy, the condemnation and stony indifference from the GOP just jumps right out at you, doesn’t it?

1. That guy sounded completely crazy! I heard excerpts of the
speech, and he sounded like a drunk, fire-and-brimstone preacher or something!

Completely nuts!

4. The problem with a party run by loonies
is that when a loony goes over the top nobody notices...

3. Well, we all heard the audience, plus Dick Cheney...
...said right after the speech that he's glad to have him!

Sounds like a flip-flop on the part of the campaign.

5. Repubs at my workplace sure loved Zell's speech, so yes, I
think there are plenty of them who think just like him.
