If you think things are bad now, just wait and see how bad things will be if LIBERALS take over!
Got your attention?

I have a Republican friend who I have slowly but surely swayed towards our side. So much so that she is now forwarding me the right wing e-mail forwards and sincerely asking, "how would you respond to this?"

Here's the latest:

The upcoming election is the most critical election in the history of our nation. The very future of our nation’s foundation is at stake. Every person will be affected. If the liberals win, then our foundation will no longer be based on the traditional Judeo-Christian morality. It will gradually but assuredly be based on an ever shifting, ever moving foundation. If the liberals win, the damage can’t be stopped with elections two, four or forty years from now. America will forever be changed. We will keep seeing a gradual and growing hostility toward people of faith, especially Christians. The morals of our nation will continue to decline. Our children and grandchildren will pay the price.

In case you may think I’m a “the sky is falling” type of person, you should know: When it comes to predictions, I am a very reserved person. But not on this one. I cannot overstate the damage a liberal victory will do to our country. The upcoming election is the most important in the history of our nation. Yes, if the liberals win you will lose some of your religious freedoms and free speech rights. Churches and pastors will not be exempt. You will not be allowed to say certain things about a particular group. Every item of the homosexual agenda will be approved. All the laws protecting the unborn will be wiped away.

I cannot overemphasize the importance of the Nov. 4 election. That is why I urge you to vote and encourage your family members, friends, Sunday School class and church members to vote. America’s future – the future of your children and grandchildren – is at stake.

Sincerely,

Donald E. Wildmon,
Founder and Chairman
American Family Association

This one should be fun!

1. Tell him it's not the Liberals who are burning people in Effigy
Tues., Sept. 30, 2008
NEWBERG, Ore. - A Christian university in Oregon said Tuesday it has punished four students who confessed to hanging a likeness of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama from a tree on campus.

2. The Moral Majority was/is one of the biggest influences...
to ruin this country in the wingnuts' eyes.

What I mean is that, even though they perceive the Moral Majority as getting this country back "on track" morally, what it did was create a climate where their worst fears manifest.

The repression of homosexuality, for example, has led to nearly every outspoken Moral Majority member (politician or preacher) to be outed as a complete hypocrite. Instead of loving relationships, they are caught in perversions and acts of self-loathing as they simultaneously condemn others for "sins."

I think the Moral Majority crowd is one of the most dangerous developments in this country in the last century; it lead to hate radio and so many other bullshit factors who have controlled much of the dialogue for too long.

Hell, they're probably financing Hollywood covertly, because they need Hollywood to provide the contrast to their bible thumping.

I wouldn't put ANYTHING past that crowd.

3. It took major LIBERAL policies to get us out of the last Republican Financial Crisis
You know, that one they caused back in 1929.

4. McCain has trotted out that "Obama is a big liberal" thing twice in the debates.
And...nothing. I think we're finally taking the word liberal back again. There is NOTHING dishonorable about being a liberal. The things we champion...protecting social security and the working class, protecting the environment, protecting civil liberties...are LIBERAL ideas.

Oh, and...fuck you, Donald Wildmon, you disgusting homophobic piece of shit.

5. Morals will decline?
So his idea of moral behavior is to fill the White House with adulterers, one of whom is a dope thief?
That's traditional American morality?

8. And a VP whose daughter was knocked up at age 17 out of wedlock?
I would like to know what this group's definition of morals is.

Reagan, the president conservatives uphold as some type of icon, is our only divorced president. He was sleeping with Nancy before he was legally divorced from Jane Wyman. Ron and Nancy's first child, Patti, was born only seven months after they were married.

What is morality in these peoples' eyes?

6. Protecting American families
I'm not sure what "God" this individual worships, but the "God" that I associate with Christianity is a tolerant God, a forgiving God, and a peace-loving God. In fact, based on the historical record, a certain individual named "Jesus" congregated with the very people that Wildmon would advocate shunning. Jesus, who was estimated to be in his early 30's at the time of his death, never married and preferred the company of men by all accounts - not that there's anything wrong with that!
American families have suffered in unprecedented ways in the last eight years.
Families have been splintered forever due to the loss of a family member in a country that we invaded under false pretenses put forth by REPUBLICANS.
Families have seen their savings depleted by fiscal policies put forth by REPUBLICANS.
Families have lost their freedoms - on the internet, on their telephone, during travel due to policies put forth by REPUBLICANS.
Families have suffered extreme hostility in the form of debilitating economic policies, education cuts, and no health care - all presided over by the REPUBLICANS.
Families have been repeatedly lied to by an administration led by a REPUBLICAN.

Wildmon is correct on one point: this is the most critical election in our time. It will take a landslide victory by Barack Obama to restore the true values of equality, fairness, and honesty in our government; a landslide victory that will leave no doubt as to the integrity of the count - lest the lying, thieving REPUBLICANS that Wildmon so adores do not steal the election.
The hostility will be directed towards those who attempted to take our country away from us - and it will indeed be HELL to pay for them.

7. These people generally participate in transference
Whatever they know to be a fact about themselves, they see in the "evil liberals". They don't even know what a liberal is.

9. George W Bush has been president for 8 years
Roe v Wade is still in place
and the "moral decay" as he calls it still is there.

Republicans and nutcases just don't get it:

Liberal ideas always win in the end. We are just arguing about how fast it will happen.

10. I hate how Fundies like to use JUDEO-Christian
Trying not to be too obvious that their beliefs are radical Christian they like to tack on the Judeo part to show some inclusiveness.
Leave us the fuck out of your whack job ideology.

And the idea that Donald Wildmon is a reserved person is laughable.

11. Is this meant to be ironic? Check out the OP's sig:
"It was Bill Clinton... that recognized the categories of conservative and liberal played to Republican advantage and were inadequate to address our problems... Clinton's third way went beyond splitting the difference. It tapped into the pragmatic, nonideological attitude of Americans."

Blue Dog, "nonideological" ("third way"), liberal. What's the difference? :silly:

12. Actually, things are almost certain to get worse when the liberals take over.
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 07:24 AM by Donald Ian Rankin
The economy is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, I suspect. That will coincide with the next presidency, and if Obama wins he *will* be blamed for it.

Likewise, when American troops withdraw from Iraq the situation there will deteriorate massively, and again, the president who withdraws them will take most of the blame.

Voting for Obama and other Democrats will help ameliorate a more-or-less-inevitable catastrophe. It probably won't usher in four good years.

20. i'd tell him this is what happens when the republicans are in charge.
in times when dems are in charge, most regular folks do well. i know there is a chart or something that went around awhile back but not sure where it is. the republicans have been in charge. remember that clinton left us with a surplus. and i don't remember any earth shattering events during his tenure as president.
