MCCAIN GAFFE TODAY: "My Fellow Prisioners"
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 02:26 PM by RoadRage
I was working out on my treadmill a short while ago, and almost fell off. I thought I heard McCain address everyone as "My Fellow Prisoners", but then thought I must have mis-heard. So, like any normal political-web junkie... i checked the You Tube. Sure Enough.. my ears weren't deceiving me.. he DID say it!

McCain & Palin are doing their stump around PA today. It was on around 1:30pm central time and he said: "My fellow Prisoners"..

I don't know how to embed.. here is the link (13 seconds long)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYFm5kK4f1k

Edited to add: This really was a GAFFE. He wasn't talking about his POW days AT ALL.. I think he meant to say "My Fellow American's", but he actually said "Prisoners" instead. How in the HELL do you mistakenly say PRISIONERS instead of AMERICANS? That, My friends is VERY Unpatriotic! It's like not wearing a flag pin.. only, about 1,000,000 times worse. :eyes:

37. The dude is delusional
I forget what part of the debate it was in last night but he had some reference about he was fighting his whole life. I forget the exact verbiage but if you had his point of view in mind, it would also seem like some kind prisoner - centric reference. It's like he never got let out of Nam or something

It's disconcerting, but also sad. The strain of a campaign could bring past trauma to the fore. I hope he has doctors who are monitoring him closely.

211. My thought was that he may be feeling like a prisoner what with the
media often catching his gaffes, his handlers pushing and pulling in all directions, his own inability to deal with the issues and the polls showing his failure. Those things could easily trigger episodes of either senility or PTSD.

I think that is where I first heard of "If you catch it you can keep it" Game show.
They would throw refrigerators and stoves off the roof of a tall building, and people down on the ground were supposed to run around and try to catch them, so they could keep them.

"PRISONERS" flew out of his mouth. The fact that he didn't even notice what he said is really more terrifying then anything else. If he was thinking a sentance ahead or something.. that would make some sense.. but this.. this is almost like he just doesn't see a difference or his head is in a totally different place. Very Odd.

Sorry, but I don't take pleasure out of watching McCain fall apart physically or mentally.

George HW Bush and Clinton had a pretty ugly election campaign but once both were out of office they established a bond that allowed them to work together on issues.

Regardless of how this election turned out I was confident that Barack and McCain would have shaken off the worst of it and found ways to work together and find some agreement on how to help this country.

Now, it's even more imperative that McCain manages to get defeated and instead of continuing his term that he chooses to retire.

w/ their own personal power seeking agendas. These people are w/ him, minimum 18/7. They have to know he is not well/stable but their lust for an administrative west wing position keeps their lips sealed and their ethics, if they ever had any, in total lock down.

117. I think it's sad that a huge part of his personality is still in "prisoner" mode
I can't blame him... I can't blame him for being always ready for a fight, given what he and his fellow prisoners endured.

Of course, even though his behavior is almost surely due in some significant part to his experiences as a POW (and also to his experience of being a huge jerk all his life even before he was captured), all the compassion in the world doesn't offset the fact that he would still be incredibly dangerous as a president.

In 2008, the thought never crossed his mind. There are many others who feel the same and that's why McCain likely will not win this election (even w/out the Palin factor).

and continues to put himself in front of crowds, he deserves every bit of analysis and criticism he receives. McCain realizes better than anyone else that his mind is no longer up to the job. This is serious scary shit!

I mean, I've never voted for the guy, but it's still damn humiliating to have him 'representing' my state with a campaign like the one he's running. I'd almost feel a little sorry for him if he and his campaign weren't so assholish and their policies so dangerous to the future of this country..not to mention Palin..*shudders* If I--in some parallel universe, lol--were a Republican, I'd be shitting my pants right now...

188. Yes, slips like that--especially if they are...
...related to a past trauma--are usually made when someone is in a disassociated state.

Disassociation is something we all do. Disassociation can be minor--like when you look out the
window and daydream and are totally taken away from what's going on around you. Or, disassociation
can be a state in which your mind, for some reason, is triggered back to thoughts or memories of
the trauma. On the extreme end, people lose time.

Disassociation can happen for a variety of reasons. Stress can bring it on. Stress punches holes
in a person's denial systems. Denial blocks unprocessed trauma from a person's mind and keeps it
repressed. People can fuel denial with all kinds of things--rage, being a workaholic, drugs,
alcohol, shopping, etc.

However, when a person gets older--maintaining that denial is almost impossible. Most trauma
researchers pinpoint the age of 70 as a tipping point for people who have strong denial systems.
Denial requires so much mental energy and sharpness, that frankly, a senior-citizen just can't
maintain. That's why you see psychopaths, sociopaths and narcissists mellow out in their golden years, and

sophisticated denial systems.

"Prisoners" is probably related to his traumatic memories. He's aging and he's under tremendous
pressure and stress, and probably very little sleep.

This is...very sad.

of dementia is substituting one word with another word. I took care of my aging MIL when she had early onset. One day, when I was with her, she was looking at herself in the mirror (she had been a beauty in her youth) and said...Oh, Cary...look at all the flowers on my face now. She meant "wrinkles", but called them flowers. I thought it was lovely & poetically sad at the same time.

178. There was a clip that was 34 seconds long at one point
I watched that one first this morning, but when I clicked on it again, the video had been removed from the YouTube server. The longer video clearly showed that McInsane was nowhere near his POW dead horse, and was talking about the economy I believe. I feel that the longer clip actually makes him look more stupid, as it supplies more Context which really shows how out there this was.

On the shorter clip, it still gets the point across, but the sound is much louder, and you can hear some commotion in the audience, someone screaming or shouting something that I could not decipher. You can see Palin look toward stage right, as well as a few members of the audience. McInsane then gets "Confused" and says "My Fellow Prisoners", finishes his stiff, scripted soundbite, then immediately looks in the direction of the commotion.

Does anyone have any information about what the person was yelling about in the audience? Was it a heckler?

184. The explanation is simple
McCain is 72 years old.
He was born in the thirties.

THE THIRTIES.

That's earlier than the first WASHING MACHINES.

That's years before BEER in CANS was invented.

That's half a decade before TELEVISION.

His internal dialogue is plagued by senility; only heavy repetition keeps him from slipping off into the oblivion of severe dementia.

The crowd didn't catch it because they are only there to clap.

The only person who caught his mistake was Sarah Palin. She did her best to stand by the old fool.

Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 01:12 AM by DFW
He was actually going through the lyrics to "Hotel California" in his head:

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Well, either that, or he's going batshit senile faster than anyone thought possible.
I guess, come to think of it, the latter explanation is WAY more plausible.

Never mind.

It wouldn't have taken that much of a stretch for the Russians to figure McCain would go into politics, or even pursue the military, who better to manipulate. Refused to go home until the others were released, bullshit, he didn't want to come home, that was his home.

191. McCain Gaffe Yesterday
MCCAIN: OOOPS, I CRAPPED MY PANTS

Nashville (AP)-Senators John McCain and Barack Obama debated for 90 minutes on Tuesday night before John McCain all but pulled his pants down to his ankles and ran out of the auditorium with second wife Cindy dabbing droplets of excrement off the red carpet. The singular dramatic moment of an otherwise stifling event was when Senator McCain grimaced briefly to in the hopes of muting a flatulent moment and accidentally shit his pants.

Not only was his agitation clearly palpable but McCain began pacing with a robot-like gait veering in and out of the camera angle in the hopes of containing the offending matter. For the rest of the debate he stood while resting his hand on the back of his chair or sat on the edge of it in a stiff-legged manner.

The most telling moment came when the debate ended and Grampa Incontinent McSnarlypants ran off the stage without shaking hands with Senator Obama or acknowledging the crowd. So foul was McCain’s mood (and trousers) that he screamed at his entire staff on the Less-Than-Straight-Talk Express while Cindy kneeled and helped him to remove his shit-stained drawers one leg at a time.

“It was very, very, very awkward,” said one campaign staffer based on anonymity. “Cindy later offered us brownies and it was all we could do not to burst out laughing. She ended up leaving the plate with us.”

192. I had a dream the other night.
I hate conspiracy theories, but I will share my nocturnal brain emissions just because this thread is way too disturbing already.

In it, McCain *WAS* being held prisoner. He had lapsed fully into dementia, but was being forced to participate in this campaign. His handlers (William Kristol and Dick Cheney were there, among others) were literally shoving him onstage with commands about what to say. He was confused and demented and really thought they wanted him to be President, and he had no comprehension that he was not cognitively capable of holding office anymore. He just wandered where they pushed him and repeated the words they told him to say, and he believed he was winning (when he remembered that he was running).

The dream ended with Dick and Bill and others laughing in a sinister, dark room with an echo. You could just see the reflected light of their faces, but they were bragging to each other about disposing of McCain as soon as the election was completed....and bringing in Palin, a dimwit and ideologue who would do anything they wanted.

It was worse than my Jerry Mathers dreams, seriously.

actually makes the Gaffe worse. The shorter version makes you wonder if it was taken out of context.. or if he was talking about his POW days a second earlier or something.. but the long version shows that it was just out of nowhwere. Sad really!

225. Neither Palin nor the other person nearest McCain seemed to notice

To them I imagine it's like the kids on the "Peanut's" TV specials listening to the boring adults: "Wah-Wah. Wah-wowah. Womawah."

226. This was a MAKE-UP CALL...
...for having been denied the opportunity to say "POW, POW, POW" during the Tuesday debate. His handlers told him that the once tried-and-true "I-was-a-prisoner-of-war" schtick was becoming a threadbare cliche. He was told to lay off the Hanoi Hilton bullshit, and the withdrawal, the DT's that it caused were plainly eating a hole through his withered, 72-year-old stomach, throughout the entire debate. You could see it in McCain's face. You could detect it in the timbre of his voice.

This was simply a Pavlovian reflex manifesting itself on-camera.

227. Just goes to show that the Crowd isn't listening to a damn thing he says
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 09:13 PM by Grinchie
They are either paid stooges, narcissistic morons looking to get on TV, Minors that have been forced to be there by the brown shirts, skinheads, or fundamental christian zealots that read the Bible like an instruction manual without ever being how to read in school, or heavily medicated.

How can the media not notice that the crowd only responds to soundbites and cheerleader and not the content of McCain's non-message?

Truly incredible bullshit.
