Indiana DUers! What can you tell me about today's events? Or our chances

I'm stuck at home with a cold and inquiring minds still want to know

1. Well, I'm a little miffed at the latest CNN poll.

Because we have been getting good numbers in my canvassing in my small town/rural area. I have more people at work telling me they are voting for Obama, and if they are strong Republicans they aren't enthused about voting at all or are not voting period. There are only a handful of Republicans I know who are voting Repub because they are core voters. We are strong Repub around here but I also know along my canvasses that there are many Repubs voting for Obama (so they say) and I've found that although some of them may be voting for McCain, their children are voting Obama!!!

There is NO presence of the McCain campaign here. The Obama signs, although they are few and far inbetween, far outnumber the McCain signs at the moment.

This is in North Central IN, county of 50k or so. Surrounded by rural area (i.e., corn fields).

I'm excited and we have many volunteers! We've been working the county for 3 months now, not including the primaries.

I feel we are closer to a chance than we've ever been before in my lifetime!

2. NWI is dark blue and voter registration is through the roof .nt

...aka the reverse Bradley effect, will be a force here in Indiana. NPR did a story on Huntington, Dan Quayle's home town, and there was at least one reliable Repub voter who indicated he'd probably vote for Obama, but wouldn't say it out loud. There's going to be a lot of that here. Economically strapped conservative Hoosiers are going to support Obama as long as they can do it in private.

Which just makes me thankful for the secret ballot.

No idea if we actually will go Blue but I think there's it's no worse than 50/50 at this point. Too bad that the governor's race is likely to go to the Repub incumbent. Would have been nice to see a big Dem sweep and a more competitive governor's race would have helped Obama.
