The NRA is full of shit.
I received some NRA partisan crap in the mail yesterday. They’re spouting the usual drama of concern that someone is going to take their guns away, which is not going to happen. So I ask: Paranoid much NRA?

The front of this wasted tree is just fear mongering:

“Barack Obama says you don’t have the right to defend yourself, whether you’re here – or anywhere.”

They sight a Chicago Tribune article from April 27, 2004 with this snip:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/specials/elections/chi-0404270145apr27,0,6836503.story

“I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry," Obama said.”

Now here is the dialogue in its entirety:

“Perhaps Obama's biggest departure from his liberal roots was his vote in the state Senate last month on the concealed-carry law. He was the only Chicago Democrat to approve allowing retired police officers to carry concealed weapons.

Obama's critics say he was courting the Fraternal Order of Police for the union's endorsement in his Senate race.

Obama explained the motivation for his vote:

"I didn't find that surprising. I mean, I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry," Obama said. "This was a narrow exception in an exceptional circumstance where a retired police officer might find himself vulnerable as a consequence of the work he had previously done--and had been trained extensively in the proper use of firearms."

His opposition to concealed carry is most likely due to the crime rate in Chicago. There is no hint of his intention to ban firearms.

The trite continues.

“That’s not all. Barack Obama has opposed your right of self defense no matter where you are – even in your own home”

“Barack Obama supported banning firearms in the home even for self-defense”

“Barack Obama endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.”

These positions sound extreme, but the reality of his actual position is of course the complete opposite. So if you get this NRA garbage in your mail box or some one tries to say “See, he wants to ban guns...” just point them to this location:

1. There's an Obama TV ad running in Ohio with an NRA member in it.
He says that Obama supports gun rights, second amendment, etc. And he says he's supporting Obama.

It must be a new ad. I've seen it 3 times today.

rat cheer.

The NRA is nothing more than an incestuous front for the RNC.

4. Flyer I got said Obama will raise taxes 500% and rifles will cost $5,000 each
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 09:40 PM by wishlist
The allegations on the small NRA flyer postcard that came in the mail this week were so obviously exaggerated that they were ludicrous and not worthy of any consideration whatsoever.

7. Someone should point out to the members that the reason the rifles will cost $5,000 each...
is because they pass off the expense of lobbying and campaigning to them.
