Announcing the Election Verification Exit Poll
************************************************
Announcing the Election Verification Exit Poll
by Steven Freeman 10/5/2008 1:01:00 PM

On Tuesday November 4, 2008, Election Integrity will be conducting its third Election Verification Exit Poll (EVEP).

Most of you reading this message are well aware of precipitous trends in America, and also that a key reason for why we're on the edge is the corruption of our electoral processes. But most Americans, and even many of you, still have no idea of the extent to which they are corrupted. Despite rude awakenings in several recent Novembers, the relentless fictions propounded by both major political parties, the media and other purported guardians of the system has lulled America back to into a stupor. As a nation, we continue to view the spectacle of electoral politics from the grandstands where we cheer, root or boo while gorging on nutritionless calories. If all goes according to plan, we'll enjoy the show and then go to sleep entertained and addle-brained assuming all is, if not well, then at least as it must be.

But although the system is corrupt on every flank, an overwhelming majority of Americans still believe deeply in democracy and understand how election integrity underpins our rights and our future. By exposing corrupted processes and participating politically as opposed to simply spectating, we may yet assert influence and gain some control over the destiny of our country. Indeed, despite a battle of no money versus billions, we are making a difference. The term "election integrity" has entered the lexicon. Since December 2004, hundreds of groups loosely known as the election integrity movement have formed. We likely had a material impact in 2006 when, for the first time in many election cycles, fraud may well have been restrained. In states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and California where our groups have been most active - egregious past results have not been repeated and/or proponents of election reform have won.

EVEPs hold perhaps the greatest promise for impact of any technique. The Bush administration has testified that they helped fund exit polls abroad because it is one of the only ways to expose large-scale fraud. Indeed, discrepancies between exit polls and the official results have been used to successfully overturn election results in Serbia, Peru, the Republic of Georgia and, in November 2004, Ukraine.

In contrast to overseas exit polls, the US National Election Pool (NEP) media exit poll does not report actual survey results, but rather disingenuously legitimizes official numbers, massaging or torturing their own data as necessary to bring them in line. In 2004, we knew of the seven percentage point national discrepancy between how people said they voted and official numbers (11 percentage points in Ohio) only because of a technical glitch that prevented NEP from "correcting" results on election night. Such a mistake won't happen again as those with access to the data are to be - no joke! -quarantined without electronic or phone communication and subsequently sworn to secrecy.

To fill this void, EI, together with Election Defense Alliance and The Warren Poll, is conducting fully transparent exit polls, all methods and data fully shared. We conducted our first EVEP in two Pennsylvania congressional districts during the 2006 general election and in this spring's Kentucky Democratic primary we tested and codified our procedures.

2. YES! YES! YES! YES!
A real, i.e. transparent, exit poll! YES! If we can't have transparent vote counting, we can at least have a transparent exit poll to compare Diebold & brethren's 'TRADE SECRET' results to. It may be that the Final Looting has already taken place, and the global corporate predators who rule over us don't care, one way or the other, who gets to preside over this broken, looted nation. With gazillions in debt, they won't be able to do a thing for the poor majority. But it may well be vital down the line, as we try to claw our way out of the Bush calamity, that we have a tool such as this--real exit polls--with which to reform our election system. For things could go either way from here--toward a new "New Deal" or toward Hitler II. That may even be the Corpo/fascist plan (to let Obama win, keep the election theft machines in place, and, after they trash him, bring on the full nazi state that all these "Patriot Act" laws seem to be aimed at). So it is utterly critical that we restore vote counting to the PUBLIC VENUE.

In this next election, I suspect that the election theft story will be in the shaving of Obama's mandate and inflicting him with another "Blue Dog" Congress (like the present one, which has earned a truly mindboggling 10% approval rating).

Stephen Freeman was THE most clear-headed, informative researcher and thinker of them all, just after the 2004 election. I was so grateful for his solid facts, solid analysis and clear prose. What a great intellect and true patriot! There is no better. So, when Stephen Freeman says "March!," we should march! Here's the info.:

5. Exit polls work. Competent, fair, impartial exit polls are the best indicator--other than actual
Edited on Mon Oct-06-08 06:55 AM by Raster
counted ballots-of how the electorate voted. Exit polls have been recently used by our own government to challenge fraudulent international elections. The only places exit polling has failed has been in the United States, and MOSTLY in elections involving a Bush* or Bush* surrogate. Since 2000, the exit polls in this country have been a sham and a reflection of their former use and glory. We have seen polling organizations previously thought fair and accurate CHANGE THEIR DATA to match the false data supplied. We MUST support fair, impartial, accurate exit polling. The American electoral infrastructure must be considered suspect until it is adequately verified. This is the cheney*/bush* legacy. And we must not only be vigilant for the Presidential elections, but also the CONGRESSIONAL elections. Loosing the White House is already a given in certain rethuglican circles. Loosing Congress, with a non-filibuster majority, would be catastrophic to the rethuglican high command. With a firm Democratic majority in both houses of Congress, many of the cheney*/bush* illegalities could be overturned and prosecutorial actions taken.

Wake Up, America!:kick:We Can Do Better!

I did NOT say estimates are better than actual vote counts. I said "...exit polls are the best indicator--other than actual counted ballots".

12. Sorry, my 10th grade English teacher is rolling over in her grave.

I was reading a lot of posts quickly and for some reason thought that you were in the group of people who always claim that exit polls are more reliable than voting results. :hi:

counted ballots are the gold standard. Unfortunately, since cheney*/bush*, the gold standard ain't worth what it used to be. Transparent, verifiable exit polling should be used as an adjunct to actual electoral data. It helps keep all parties honest, and granted, that seems to be a foreign concept in American elections for the past 8-10 years.

Have a wonderful day!:hi:

10. Can these exit polls be used as evidence in court
Lets say there is a 10-15% discrepency between the exit polls and official tallies, and they always benefit McCain. Can the exit polls themselves be used as evidence to bring a lawsuit? If the Obama camp won't act how can the public bring their own lawsuit?

15. The beauty of "trade secret," proprietary programming code in all the voting systems
all over the country, owned and controlled by less than a handful of rightwing Bushwhack corporations, with virtually no audit/recount controls, is that it doesn't have to be an eye-poking 10-15% in any one place--a number that even a Bushwhack judge might harumph over--but it can be 1.5% here, 3% there, 0.05% somewhere else, in selected precincts, regions and states (say Republican areas, where a few %'s more for the Puke won't be noticeable), with a smooth, barely noticeable bump for Pukes, warmongers and corpos in many states, and some "surprising" wins only in selected states (say, close states needed for the electoral college magic number), with the Corpo/fascist media making up all sorts of reasons why the Pukes, warmongers and corpos are winning, despite being loathed by 89% of the people in pre-election polls and exit polls.

So, number one, electronic election theft generally doesn't work that way--in 10-15% gulps--but more subtly in widespread 1%-5% increments that only spoilsports would balk at; and number two, peoples' actual votes, their ballots, don't count any more--the only thing that counts is the word of Diebold & brethren telling us who won.

This was amply demonstrated in FL-13 in 2006, where ES&S (spinoff of Diebold) 'disappeared' 18,000 Democratic votes for Congress in an election that the Puke 'won' by only about 350 votes. When the lawyers for the Democrat, Christine Jennings, took the matter to court, and asked to review ES&S's source code--to try to figure out what happened to those 18,000 votes--ES&S refused, saying that their right to profit from our elections, with their 'TRADE SECRET' code, trumps the right of the voters to know how their votes were counted--and the judge agreed. And when Jennings then took the matter to the Democratic Congress of 2006, it was never heard of again.

So, you see, how people actually voted is no big deal in this Corpo/fascist political system. 18,000 votes? Phht! What's important is Diebold & brethren's PROFITS, and making sure that Pukes or warmongers and corpos of whatever stripe keep the Forever War and the Great Looting on track. These exit polls will be laughed out of court because our political system doesn't give a fuck how people actually vote. It only wants to maintain the illusion that they did.

However, the exit polls could be useful in increasing the levels of citizen awareness and outrage, to the point of all us marching down to our local registrar's offices or homes, with all of our neighbors, and demanding that our votes be counted in the PUBLIC VENUE for all to see. Ordinary people still have some potential influence at the state/local level, which still has jurisdiction over voting systems--so that is the best hope for reversing this coup d'etat, the Corpo takeover and privatization of our election system.

Vigilance, such as these citizen-implemented, transparent exit polls, may act as something of a deterrent, though it won't matter much to Diebold & brethren in vital races. They can and will steal any election that is essential to the Corpo/fascists, and will pass it off as a "computer glitch" or whatever. And if it's any comfort--and it shouldn't be--the Corpo/fascists who are running things may decide to let Obama win (he is, after all, on board for the Forever War--will just move it to Afghanistan--and for the Great Looting--will wring his hands when there's no money for anything) to kill the election reform movement, and the 'TRADE SECRET' code will then come back to bite, really bad, in 2012 (why an Obama win should be no comfort at all, as to 'TRADE SECRET' vote counting).

I'm not saying that people shouldn't take exit poll discrepancies to court--and any other evidence that they can wrench from Diebold & brethren's black boxes or corrupt registrars--and raise holy hell about stolen elections in every way possible. I would never say that. But the most important component of any hard struggle is fully understanding your strategic position at the outset. The public has NO RIGHT to public vote counting any more. That right is gone--fini, kaput, dead--and our democracy went with it. How we can recover transparent vote counting, the bottom line of democracy, in these circumstances, is the problem.

Bear in mind, also, that I may be wrong about things. Diebold & brethren may be planning a 10%-15% heist, and putting McDrone and Ms. To Nowhere into the White House. Obama may be more of a threat than I have guessed. It's extremely difficult to tell, in our byzantine empire, what the fuck is going on. And if they do it, maybe these citizen exit polls will be the key to UN-doing it. They are, in any case, very important as some of the only evidence that we will have about who really won what. In half the voting systems in the country, there is no ballot--nothing to count or recount or audit. In the other half, there may be a ballot but only 1% of them are counted (very inadequate) and recounts are very expensive and difficult to obtain. So, basically, the "evidence" has been almost entirely removed from the voting system, and from the public.

This is why the Corpo exit polls in 2004--the real exit polls (the data that was screen-captured by alert bloggers and staticians before it was doctored)--was so important. That data showed a Kerry win by 3%. Diebold & brethren had reversed that win, and given it to Bush, through widespread, small-percentage electronic fraud (combined with other vote suppression and stealing, particularly in Ohio, a state that had not been fully Diebolded by that time). Those real exit poll numbers started the election fraud/election reform movement. That it the main value of real exit polls, in current circumstances--that they can rally the citizenry to action.

20. Remembering Bush in 2004 election; "looks like the exit polls got it wrong"
I believe 110% Bush stole the 04 election and after Gore & Kerry's actios it appears it doesn't matter if Mccain did steal this years election, they did it twice they may do it again, although with Jeb out of office in Florida it may be a slightly more difficult - not paranoid, I just do not trust the bastards!

24. This is a comprehensive overview of the 2004 election. It shows how the pre-election state and
national polls and the post-election state and national exit polls indicated a clear Kerry victory. And how the Final National and state exit polls were rigged to match a bogus vote count.
