Crap! It was a good speech
I've got to give the Devil (or at least the Devil's speechwriter) his due... A good speech, well delivered by Bush. Kerry's going to need to go into high gear to overcome this...

If anyone stayed awake for the last 20 minutes, the speech probably made a favorable impression. However, the first 5 hours of it was nothing to brag about.

40. Try to look at it from an independent perspective ...

I KNOW it was swill. I KNOW it was garbage. But it was well presented garbage.

Considering the president has NOTHING to run on, he did a good job presenting himself.

Did you listen to what he's really saying. It almost doesn't matter if the speech was well delivered or not. The guy's calling for us to either join his religious crusade to "liberate" the world or go to hell. I've never been more certain that this guy is our Hitler.

30. You misinterpret me
I'm not suggesting for a moment that Bush is anything other than a jackass-- and of course everything he talked about is pure hokum-- however the speech, as an act of sophistry was well delivered, and I'm afraid that Bush may have just won over a few undecided voters. We're playing a ballgame, and I think the other team just hit a double.

to American Imperialism. Plain and simple. But crafted so
the masses can swallow it and think we are on a mission from God

(and that's a new wingnut talking point introduced at the RNC)

You're absolutely right.

34. Well he didn't fall off the stage or fart but I thought it was:
1. Too long for the actual content - lot of repetition
2. Several predictable cheap shots on Kerry
3. The domestic proposals don't add up and raise the obvious question of why are they only being proposed NOW?
4. The crowd was not with him at all - didn't even pick up on his obvious chant along line. The delivery didn't have enough energy to get the crowd into it.
5. The last bit almost sounded like the forlorn goodbye of someone who thinks he just might lose.
6. He did make a better speech than that sorry ass Pataki.
7. It was one of his better speeches but it didn't soar like Kerry's.
8. I really think the reason folks think this was a good speech is because the bar has been set so low for Bush. It was an acceptable speech for an incumbent snd he probably recovered some of the ground lost by Zell. That's all it was.

Kerry's speech was inspirational and the crowd was way into it.

Bush tried to sound like a policy wonk but all he gave out were a bunch of easy answers and impossible solutions. When he started dishing out anecdotes, then it became a little more tolerable. But unlike Kerry who need only about 10 minutes to get rolling, Bush needed about 45.

Yeah, do give the speechwriters credit, but if you put it in front of me I could have delivered it just as well.

They planned and rehearsed this probably for at least a month if not two, so it has little reason to be a bad speech. Plus, they probably gave Dumbya tiny Botox injections in his bottom lip to keep it from sagging and causing him to drool.

Funny thing, I switched the channel for a moment, and when I went back to CSPAN, I accidentally went to CSPAN2, where they were playing Bush's convention speech from 2000.

Problem was, I couldn't tell. I watched it for 10 minutes before I said "Wasn't he wearing a blue tie a minute ago?" That's when we noticed that we were listening to the SAME DAMN SHIT THAT BUSH SAID 4 YEARS AGO.

How anyone could enjoy that speech is beyond me. Just watching him smirk made me want to reach through the screen and pimp slap his smarmy ass.
