2. Good that Bush is only at 46
to the extent there is a bright side.

3. 46 is terrible for a sitting president
especially at or during his convention.

4. That's worse than I expected.
The majority of the cals would have been pre-Zell and all of them before the Bush speech.

Let's hope the other numbers are not as bad (though the Rasmussen poll - which I almost completely discount - was troubling.

15. Not necessarily.
These polls aren't linear transformations of the same underlying data.

6. I expect Bush to lead
After this last week of solid republican coverage. But if Kerry isn't losing by more than 4 points next week I'll be happy for now. I think Kerry can make it up.

7. It's not a figure to ignore.
That's a significant shift. And that doesn't include the expected post-convention bounce.

10. Kerry down 4, Bush up 3
you know, it probably still ends up being within the margin of error

8. Rudy and Arnold got rave reviews, that's where the boost comes in
I imagine there will be negative reactions to the Zell tirade and Bush's snoozer of a speech tonight.

11. hopefully the other bad news will dominate the headlines now
like florida's hurricane troubles getting worse, the russian hostage thing getting worse, the abu grhaib torturors situation getting bigger, and that economic report coming out tomorrow. i'm probably forgetting other stuff.
fortunately for us, the rnc and *'s speech is competing against many things that are very attention grabbing.

13. Not bad at all.
I think 46-48 represents the ceiling on Bush's support.

Sweet.
