OMG!....A Proposal from FReeperville...Scary
A proposal:

(will seem ridiculous perhaps, but it’s not meant to be)

John McCain calls a presser next week, alongside some large public event he already has scheduled with Governor Palin.

So a big media event. John tells all the media outlets, he has a major announcement to make about his campaign.

EVERY MEDIA OUTLET is running live, for the announcement.

John McCain reviews his own qualifications, and why he’s ready to be President.

Then he pauses. He then looks serious, and humble.

He gathers his thoughts, then slowly at first, mentioned to the cameras — to the American people, he understands he’s not as young as he used to be.

He goes on the say he’s proud and excited with his wisdom in selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate.

He reviews her accomplishments briefly, and brings her alongside. Then he drops the bombshell:

John McCain, Sarah Palin standing at his side, pledges that once elected President, he will serve exactly three years.

From the moment he takes office, his second job will be, preparing Sarah Palin to assume the job of US President, in the year 2011.

The landslide, will be historic.

7. I believe that would be unconstitutional....
but the Right doesn't care about the Constitution, as we know from experience.

Apprenticeship President. A new national office!!

17. In what way?
I don't believe the constitution says anything about being forced to serve a full term.

Moral or ethical, definitely not. Legal? Not sure. But I don't think it impinges on the Constitution.

28. But openly planning to resign before your term is up.....
and promoting your Veep as some sort of apprentice amounts to re-writing the job description of both President and Veep.

It might not be unconstitutional, but it's....not right.

24. Constitutionally, she can step in on Jan. 20, 2011
serve out the rest of McCain's term, and then get elected to two terms of her own. If McCain gets elected in the first place. If he checks out for whatever reason before Jan. 20, 2011 then she only gets one term of her own - see the 22nd Amendment for details.

That assumes the rest of the party goes along with it. When Wilson was incapacitated, his wife essentially took over running the government: I don't think Cindy will allow any interference.

My constitutional question: if this scenario does take place, can she appoint Todd as official VP? The Constitution only says that electors must vote for at least one candidate who's not from their state, but the amendment that allows for appointment of VP doesn't have these restrictions.

it because it would backfire. It is their little secret for now. It won't happen irregardless because Obama is going to win in a landslide.

30. The establishment wing of the GOP would bolt en masse.
Obama would say that it points to John McCain not being up for the job.

Huckabee and Romney would have an absolute conniption and in a couple of days mcCain would retreat and that would piss off the fundies.

Why am I even responding to such a laughable Hail Mary

31. They really think that's a good idea?
If anything, that would make voters think he's even flakier than they already thought he was. That move would result in a landslide, for Obama.

34. You mean 2012
Or the freeper does.

Assuming McCain wins  he would take office January 20th, 2009. He would resign January 20th 2012 to give her one year in office as POTUS. Which she would spend running for re-election.

Oy vey.

Let's just have McCain NOT WIN. Sooooo much easier that way.

Biden drops out as VP candidate in 2012 and is replaced by someone that can run in 2016 (after an Obama 2nd term) for 8 more years of Democratic governance.

That works quite well for me.

In this week's episode, Blinky takes Winky under his wing and tells her that she too can one day be the big cheese. In next week's episode, Blinky's partner Cindy hits him over the head with a big baseball bat because she wants to be First Lady for the full four years.
