My FIL and BIL are racist assholes.
FIL is generally a Democrat, BIL has wingnut tendencies. Both are confirmed racist assholes. There is no way in hell they'd vote for one of THEM for President.

Sis-in-law, who lives next door to FIL, visited us a few days ago. She informed my wife and me that, much to her surprise, both BIL and FIL recently announced are voting Obama. They still can't stand THEM, but they like Obama.

It's gonna be a blowout, people.

1. I think there's a LOT of that going on.
I also believe there are a lot of people who won't admit publicly they're voting for one of THEM. Some even may not admit it within their own families. But once they get in the booth, they'll vote for Obama.

2. Let's face it, Voting for "THEM" is far less scary than voting for "their own kind" this year

6. This could be Bradley effect in action
I too have a right wing relative, abortion-only voter, now claiming she's voting for Obama! It is too much of a miracle and I am suspicious. Claiming this protects them from charges of racism and in the booth they can do whatever.

10. That could be true, too, hopefully
The Bradley race was back in the 80s, too. Since then, Limpballs and Annthrax and their ilk have emboldened these racists, and they'd be less likely to claim they were voting for the black guy out of fear they will be labeled racists. Now if called on their racism they just start sneering that "oh, you're playing the race card."

11. LOL @ the racists who will make an exception for Obama.
Hey, I guess it's progress although it does show how fucked up racism is. Hopefully, when Obama is elected and does a good job, he'll help show people that their racist views shouldn't be the lens that they view the world through.

12. for people that have always been racist to shift to a vote for obama
is a wonderful thing, and i see more and more in the highly racist area i live in. it is a shift in their heart. a start to healing. it will get uglier with the diehard racists shaming those that dont have it in their heart, just conditioned thru ego.

a lot of people are racist, sexist cause they have been conditioned. not cause they hate. that is a large group. i see the same with the ugliness to female and i think palin is having guys take a good look at this

there are still the men that have a chip on shoulder, just hate women and they are the ones reducing her to lap dances and blowjobs. then there are the men, many that reduce woman to things with knee jerk comments of i could hit her, but this example of palin is taking them beyond. instead of that knee jerk response they reflect and say, i can see how offensive this is both to me as male (projecting i am stupid) and to all the women in my life doing damage when they walk into the workforce......

it is all a good thing. hard. but good. in the last decade with bushco we have watched racism and sexism become huge, dominant and out in the open.
