Check this, McCain is leaving Michigan to, wait for it, wait....
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 03:16 PM by chimpsrsmarter
(CNN) -- A senior adviser to Sen. John McCain confirms to CNN that the campaign is "shifting resources" from Michigan to Ohio and Pennsylvania, and "opening up an offensive front" in Maine.

Michigan 17 electoral votes

Maine 4 electoral votes

He does know that the electoral college isn't golf, doesn't he? The low score does not win.

8. Susan Collins
The resources in Maine will be there to help Susan Collins in case the Obama landslide causes a wave of straight ticket democratic voters. As I predicted the GOP is protecting Senate Seats now.

McCain's media people really should have come out with a statement that was a tad better.

16. Yep
However they couldn't very well say where the resources are really going. North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana....you know states a Republican has to win.

I think a few are going into Maine as a just in case the Collins race gets competitive. All GOP senators have seen leads drop this past two weeks.

I smell a bit of desepration.

12. Collins is safe.
Allen has run a less than stellar campaign.

The reasoning behind Maine is that Maine splits its EC votes. While I doubt McCain will draw to an EC tie, he'll want to pick up Maine's CD2 to avoid any chance of the tie.

14. Maine??
Maybe they want one electoral vote from up north... Down south is deep blue for Obama.

I do wish Obama or Biden would make a stop here though. Edwards visited Maine twice in 2004 on behalf of Kerry/Edwards.

17. HE keeps rolling those dice
If he was smart, he'd pull out of every Kerry state except Pennsylvania. PA would give him an ability to draw off some Obama funds.

Then go all in defending Florida, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Indiana, Missouri, and West Virginia. If he can hold those red states, he wins. If he can't, he's screwed.

It's too late to go after Kerry states and PA is really only a misdirect, but it doesn't matter any way. McCain is screwed six ways from Sunday no matter how you look at it even if Palin has the debate performance of all debate performances tonight.

23. They are worried about a 269-269 tie.
Maine and Nebraska allocate all but two of their electoral votes by Congressional district. If McCain wins one Congressional district in Maine he gets one of Maine's electoral votes even if Obama wins the state wide vote.

30. "offensive front" and "Maine" in the same sentence is just plain goofy
Maine has some of the mellowest people I have ever met (even more than Vermont or California) and to put the term "offensive front" is just wacked.

Unless they mean the "offensive front" is their ugly fat faces...
