Do you think Gwen Ifill is pissed about the Repub accusations of bias?
It seems to me that there are two possible outcomes of the Republican attacks on Gwen Ifill today. Either she will be intimidated and try and bend over backwards to make it appear like she isn't biased in Obama's favor, or she is going to be offended by the accusation, and will hammer Palin even harder. Which do you think will happen?

1. I've followed her for awhile
and I can say with near certainty that she will not be intimidated by this Bush League bullshit. She'll probably hammer both of them equally, and Joe will be just fine with that. Churchy Spice will likely fall apart. Dumb move number 3434343434343 of the McCrap campaign to start this issue.

11. I think she's above the petty BS too,m but I can't imagine she's thrilled
about the accusation! Gwen is a strait forward journalist and I doubt this will influence her questioning, but I think it's possible she will be more averse to accepting any BS answers.

6. I doubt she'll be fased by this
She is a true professional. Even if she does have a bias (like they all do) she is smart enough to check it at the door.

8. No. She's a no-nonsense person from what I've seen of her. She's
serious as was Lehrer.
Makes me wonder why Brokaw was hired to be a moderator, or anyone from a station that has a vested interest in the outcome. Schieffer, too.

We shall see.

13. I was pretty annoyed by the story about Brokaw manipulating election coverage
Matthews and KO anchors for debates, etc. Think it was in NYT today? For them to make a stink about Ifill... :eyes:

9. I think she should open the debate with a statement of her own

"Yes, I've written a book about black politicians breaking through. This fact was known to Republicans since July 23rd, and they decided to wait until the eve of the debate to complain about it. I am a professional journalist, and quite frankly, I take great offense to having my integrity questioned in this debate. The McCain campaign has NO issue with me moderating the debate for the past 2.5 months. I am a FAIR reporter, and my questions will reflect that. Now.... let's begin."

ask the candidates if they have a problem or forever hold their peace.

12. Well damn, she is a woman - I thought Palin can relate to the
women of America so it would seem she has the advantage. Obama should be the one fussing.

17. And here she is, so dedicated, to continue to do this with her broken foot.
She's willing to sit there for 90 minutes in discomfort, unable to take pain meds, to do this debate...and yet the repugs are ripping her to shreds over their own error.

It really sucks for her.

19. Well, I'd say this is the worst insult you can make to a true professional journalist
So, I'd say she not pleased in the least but she is a professional journalist and will behave as such.

25. To me, there was one much worse from Imus years ago when he called
Ifill the cleaning lady covering the White House. Even still when Ifill responded, she said she'd heard comments even worse than that and it did not scar nor define her. So I agree she will be the professional that she is.

23. Right..why would "the book be
favorable toward Obama"..how about just objective?

I cannot wait to see how she does this 'cause there were complaints about her being disrespectful to John Edwards in 2004 and giving dick cheney a pass.

And, as far as the Commission on Presidential Debates goes what do they think about tom brokaw and his obvious bias against Obama?

22. Let's not overlook the undertone of racism here
Many folks simply don't know who Ifill is. They'll read this 'story' and Google her. They'll see a woman with a similar background at the top of one of the tickets, and many idiots will simply make the race bias connection instead of the 'journalistic bias' connection that's here as pretext, as ridiculous as it seems. I heard it more than once from folks in different parts of the country today.

24. I definitely don't think Ifill will be intimidated, like everyone has
said, she truly is a professional. But to me, she's like Barack - calm and steady and will strike when she needs to - and didn't mind taking on Tim Russert either.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuz34bRylNU

I remember long ago when Imus called Ifill "the cleaning lady," and I always wondered why she never responded. But last year, she spoke out against Imus when he absolutely slandered those Rutgers basketball players and Ifill FINALLY referenced his racist remark from well over 10years ago. But she so made it not about her, but about the impact on the girls. Ifill is my idol. However she responds will be fine with me but I do like Munchys thoughts about it.

Check out her thoughts about her new book.
