So when does BushCo roll out the Bin Laden tape?
We know it's coming. I expect it a little earlier this time around because McCain will likely be further behind the closer we get to the election.

I also expect that when it does come out, Bin Laden will endorse Obama by name. Thinking people know that an Obama presidency would be bad for business when it comes to recruiting aspiring terrorists because he's less likely to engage them gratuitously as Bush has done but unfortunately, the majority of low info voters lack critical thinking skills.

I don't think it would hurt Obama as much as it hurt Kerry, but it remains a potential concern. I would guess as sharp as the Obama camp has been the last 18 months, they are prepared for anything between an Bin Laden tape or a LIHOP terrorist incident to an air strike on Iran.

The bottom line to me as the probability of an Obama win increases, the more desperate they will become. I don't think Bush likes McCain at all, but it could be argued that he likes him well enough not to want to see all that he has accomplished for evil in 8 years to be undone by Obama. He will play ball for McCain.

4. I think they won't.
The last al Quaida tape got no airtime at all. I think they're not anxious to remind us that Bin Laden is still

Wanted -- dead or alive.

5. Bush's legacy will be tied to his failure to catch bin Laden.
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 07:22 PM by Drunken Irishman
It might have helped in 2004, when he had another FOUR YEARS to catch him, but now it does nothing.

Best to keep it out of the voters' minds.

6. I hope you are right
I guess the gist of what I'm thinking is that as long as there are no external events (i.e. a terrorist attack in the US) prior to the election, it's in the bag for Obama. But the one thing that keeps me from popping the cork on the champagne is that there are some things that are not within the Obama campaign's control.

8. Even four years ago it had limited impact.
I don't think the bin Laden tapes shifted support to Bush.

7. If bin Laden had half a brain, he'd endorse Obama.
It's his only shot at helping keep in power the Republicans who want to ignore him. And certainly Osama bin Laden does have some street smarts. He's had the good sense so far to hide out in an area with no petroleum deposits.

11. I see it a little differently
If Bin Laden is still alive, I would think he wants McCain who is more likely to invade Iran and more likely to keep an extremely large (target) in Iraq for years to come. Again, assuming he is still alive, Bin Laden WANTS us to engage because Americans troops in the ME are a wonderful recruiting tool. If they're gone, not so much.

16. No, we see it the same.
Of course bin Laden wants McCain to win. That's why he'd endorse Obama. Can you see McCain's chances getting saved by anything that McCain himself does? Obama is pledging to make Afghanistan the central front in the war (I can only imagine the shock in your eyes upon hearing this!). Bin Laden will lose his greatest recruitment office & propaganda talking point when we start pulling out of Iraq. His only hope is to endorse Obama and hope that American voters are as dumb as the Republicans think we are.

10. I think BushCo doesn't give a rat's ass about McCain. Either martial law, or they let him sink.
Whatever madness they pull this month, it won't have anything to do with McCain.

But madness does indeed loom. Obama has this thing won, barring madness.

13. I don't think people would fall for it. And, when I say "people"...
I mean the 75% that aren't Bush-McPalin's base.

Everyone else is wise to the BS, without even knowing details! I think Palin made McCain's bullshit factor VERY apparent.

They've done the work for us, for Obama. :)

14. Somehow I don't think this will happen this time around
The current climate is so much different than it was in 2004. With economic fears at the forefront, it is doubtful that any "Osama" tape would have the impact it had four years ago. I suspect that the current so-called administration is probably aware of this.

And, I do think that the Obama camp is wiser (because of what happened in 2004, for one thing), and, the tape would be greatly scrutinized.

15. Bin Laden Tape Would Be Abject Proof Of Failure Of Bush & McCain's 'War On Terror' (sic)
Every Obama surrogate, blogger etc should be doing a pre-emptive attack on the Bush-Cheney-Rove-McCain-Palin cabal tactic - over & over & over - to prevent them from even thinking of trying this again - Regardless if it's the tall Bin Laden, the chubby Bin Laden, the dark bearded Bin Laden...
