Sarah Palin, asked if she was undercutting McCain's message, further undercuts McCain's message.
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 01:57 PM by Occam Bandage
Katie Couric, in a segment to air tonight, asks Palin about her joke that she's been listening to Joe Biden's speeches since second grade, and whether that isn't an odd thing to say given her own running mate's age:

"Oh no, it's nothing negative at all. He's got a lot of experience and just stating the fact there, that we've been hearing his speeches for all these years. So he's got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I'm the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he's got the experience based on many many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want in these next four years."

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/

Does it seem to anyone else that talking up "new energy and new ideas" as the opposition to "a tremendous amount of experience," and then asking voters "which they want in these next four years" is not the message that the John McCain campaign would like to be throwing out there?

6. I've never understood - why is a bag of hammers dumb?
I mean, it seems to me to be as good a way as any to transport a large number of hammers...

11. I don't think it's the bag,
I think it's the hammers-- they don't have much intellectual ability. Have you ever seen a hammer do calculus?

14. Once. But I was very drunk, so it may not be a reliable anecdote...
You could well be right - I'd always assumed that the operative dumbness was the method of transport, not the contents within. It seems likely I've been misinterpreting the idiom.

19. I guess it's the hitting things with your head a lot
that gives the hammers such a reputation ...

2. I can't wait to see the radio silence when she's asked about SCOTUS decisions
Between this and the joint interview with Couric about the "gotcha" question at the "pizza place", Tina Fey's gonna be busy again.

... before the debate. (Though I pray that she'll get 'em confused.)

12. What makes Palin so great for us is that...
... She HONESTLY BELIEVES that she is smart and knowledgeable. That's the best possible scenario for us, because that way she makes herself look like a complete fool without ever realizing what a fool she is making of herself. In fact, she makes a fool of herself while, deep down, sincerely believing that she is making a brilliant showing. That just makes the comedy of it all absolutely priceless.

30. I'm not sure that's what she thinks. She seems to be like Bush ...
... and just doesn't think being educated or intelligent is all that important. Look how far she's made it so far, so why would she think otherwise?

20. When Palin made that comment...the crowd went wild...
Palin to Couric in explaining her quote that she’s “been listening to Joe Biden’s speeches...since I was in 2nd grade.”

MSNBC just showed Katie Couric asking Palin if she thought it was dangerous to say that when her running mate is 72 years old.

Palin’s response was “Oh, no, I just meant that he’s very experienced and has been speaking since 1972…” (yeahhh, thats the ticket!)

Yet when she made that comment, the crowd went wild.

What came to my mind…

Obama: “Lipstick on a pig ... its still a pig” …and the crowd went wild...

But what did the GOP say...Obama is SEXIST!!!

:banghead:

Did Katie think to ask that? I'd sure as hell like to know.

I'm not convinced she has any such thing as ideas, new or otherwise.

31. Yes, agreed. Couric doesn't do too good a job of followup.
... but then no journalists really do. That's why everyone gets so excited when a reporter keeps hammering on a question.

Please return to Alaska immediately. Somebody's daughters need a mom. Or, do you want your 14-year-old to be preggers too?
