12. They don't understand what was actually voted on.
I think they opposed the initial Bush plan, but want SOME bailout. I think that's the discrepancy.

They oppose the bill because it was bullshit that had nothing to do with our real problems, and was only a handout to the fascists who are afraid this was their last good chance to suck hundreds of billions out of the Treasury.

They are worried because Bush is still in the White House and he has 130 more days to do shit like this.

23. I'm in that boat...
Ultimately, not passing anything would be harmful. But we don't have to rush a bill through. I think it's clear that the only people who want a fast decision are the fat cats and Bush. We have about a week or so to get something through. may as well make it right.

4. If most people oppose it, then most people will credit the republicans for killing it.
This could cut against us.

20. That's the thing, most people don't oppose it and those that do, don't know the details.
What people forget is that average American's don't understand the market, don't understand how converged world markets are, don't know that most of our debt is sold to foreign owners, don't understand how credit because of the prior is privatized, don't know the inherent flaws of the capitalist market which results in hick-ups that can be full blown heart attacks....

They don't bloody understand it, and we have a fuckin' silent Government that is not informing the people of the details. If you notice it's basically cut down the middle between those who favor and those who oppose. As one CNN analyst said, "It's cut down the middle it's just the louder voices are the opposed." And this is true.

People assumed fat cats were going to get rich in Wall Street, but without the bill passing we just saw 401K plans demolished. People can say we need get rid of these rich follks, yeah right. However, at the end of the day many people worked hard for years and years sacrificing and saving for the future, for their children and themselves and when they want to retire they can't, because Wall Street shut down.

Now you're hearing about more home fore closures which this bill was going to try to protect. You have student loans not happenin gand a credit freeze. If people understood the magnitude and there was a fuckin' politician takling to them about what needs to be done, what's going on and how it works then we'd have more supporters of the bill.

6. Oppose 47, Favor 45...
Nowhere near the numbers 'against', that some people were trying to throw out yesterday....yesterday I saw people saying the public opposed it anywhere from 300 to 1, down to 50 to 1....

I guess those for it, didn' think they needed to call....

Those that support it are just following along.

24. The number against was never high!
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 12:48 PM by Drunken Irishman
It was only spun that way because only 33% or so of Americans were for it.

Except most Americans didn't know, they were unsure. There has never been a huge number against this bailout. But the media painted as 33% of Americans (or something like that) being FOR it, leaving the impression that 67% were against it. When roughly 30% were against it and the rest were undecided.

8. America knows that the ReThugs were caught with the knife and blood in their hands
and the dead body (bailout) in front of them. Barack Obama has got to be on TV reassuring America and explaining that the GOP is at fault for 8 years of drunkenness and free spending and McCain is the new drunken sailor in town.

10. It shows that people are confused
and are just listening to what they are told. We need to start doing our own research on the issue. I don't know where I stand on this right now. I am just pissed the country is in the situation in the first place.

11. 88% concerned that the bailout failure could "worsen the downturn"....
...but only 45% in favor of it.

That right there tells me how scared and confused Americans are about this whole mess. They deserve to have someone spell it out for them: what we're facing, what the bailout is, how specifically it would work, etc.

But so far, no one is willing to step up to the plate.

18. My take
We are in this mess because of the dismantling of all the checks and balances that have been aggressively dismantled since Reagan's first term.

Then Paulson sends out a three page proposal that asks the American taxpayer to dontate 700 billion to him to use as he sees fits with no checks and balances in the proposal what so ever.

Damn right America knows what these confidence men are up to with this scheme!
