Palin is not going to drop out. She's not scared, either.
A lot of posters here are underestimating Sarah Palin. She is not going to drop out. She is not feeling intimidated. She does not think that she is in over her head. She is not embarrassed by her performances.

Sarah Palin is having the time of her life. She fully intends to become president of the United States when McCain's health fails. She knows that Rove and Co. are planning to steal the election for her.

Sarah Palin represents the ideal candidate of the corporatist-religious extremist coalition that has seized control of the United States. She is, indeed, Dick Cheney in heels. Not only that, she combines the self-proclaimed fundamentalist born-again religiosity of George W. Bush with the corporatist-energy company cronyism of Cheney.

Sarah Palin believes the following things, and she believes them absolutely:

1. She believes that she is a charming, quick-witted, successful politician with a loyal following.
2. She believes that the earth was made a couple thousand years ago by a God who approves of her and will provide her with money and power just because she says she's on His side. Palin believes that she is owed this by God because she is white and American.
3. She believes that God gave the earth to white Americans (that is, U.S. Americans - the other Americans in Canada and points south don't matter except as consumers and servants) to use as she and other right-thinking white patriotic Americans see fit.
4. The oil is there for harvesting, and the profits are to be divided among the few elite. The polar bears, wolves, and other wildlife are in the way and it is her God-given right to eliminate them and use them for profit.
5. She believes that it is perfectly acceptable to lie, cheat, and steal elections to gain power because God wants her to have power because she is on His side and deserves to be in charge.

Do not underestimate Sarah Palin or those who seek to put her in power for their own profit.

More to the point, their base wants her to be president. They like her!
It's hard for most Democrats to imagine the world view of the Republican base. It's truly mind-boggling. The combination of religious hubris and pure greed is simply beyond the comprehension of decent people.

The people who think that the chimp is still doing a fabulous job are the people who love Sarah Palin and want her to be president. They represent about one-third of the voting public. And they own the voting machines.

ITA that the world view of the GOP is beyond the comprehension of decent people.
IMO that's a mistake many of us make. We assume that the GOP leadership actually care about things like working people, the environment, the future of our country and our reputation.. when they actually care about absolutely nothing but themselves and their own bank accounts and will happily sacrifice the rest of us to advance their own selfish agenda.

Pizza Box Hate-Monger girl has the facial features and the ear set of a fetal alcohol syndrome baby, AND she looks to be about 14 years old.

She probably doesn't even have the intellectual capacity to understand the hate she's being instructed to preach by whomever stuck that pizza box on her bony little frame. It's sad that she doesn't have much of a life outside of being a buzz-kill, looking angry and crazed, and peddling bigotry. Her self loathing must be of crippling proportions, and rightly so.

She won't even know she is being used. All they have to do is tell her God wants her to do whatever it is. I don't think she is as bright as some people claim she is. She simply can't be even minimally informed about current events and national and international politics, judging by her performance so far. Even I, who certainly have never even WANTED to be an elected official, know more than she does.

Hagee event at Palin's church coming up:

"And Rose's church, Juneau Christian Center, is hosting one of Hagee's "Nights to Honor Israel" in Juneau in March 2009, according to the Christians United for Israel Web site. (The original Web page has been taken down, but the cache shows the Juneau church on the schedule.) Indeed, in one of the excerpts Rose refers to what can only be a Christians United for Israel gathering involving Newt Gingrich and the prime minister of Israel."

But things aren't going according to plan for the republicans. Palin's taking shots from the right and the left and has high unfavorables in polling. McCain's currently tanking in the polls.

I doubt the Rs can gain anything from the VP debate (they aren't influential in overall voting), but they definitely can lose if Palin gaffes or looks out of league.

The caught-in-the-headlights look was obvious with both Charlie and Katie. Perhaps her pageant training is enough for her to believe that she will be ready in time to face Biden, but she cannot believe that she's prepared now.

I think she's certainly smart enough to know that she's woefully unqualified to do the hard work of dazzling us intellectually. She just wants to skip to the easy, cruise-control mode of vice-presidentin'. In that respect, she seems to be much like *, wanting to be a big shot just because, and vaguely resentful that We The People seem to want her to have done some work in advance of her coronation.

36. Respectfully disagree.
You list five accurate weaknesses in her thinking, and then suggest that we should not underestimate her. One can add her very poor performances in her tv interviews, plus the republican party's attempt to keep her away from the media, and conclude that she is an extremely poor candidate.

Few intelligent people would believe that there is even a one-in-one-thousand chance of her dropping out at this point. It will not happen. This is a good thing for democrats.

None of this is to suggest that anyone would be wise to underestimate the republican machine. It is always dangerous.

We are way too close to election day for her to drop out, it simply will not happen. I'd bet a paycheck on that too.

They run efficient systems, having woven dangerous evil structural webs. Palin is only a puppet. She will dance however her puppet masters wish.

51. Yep, folks are setting themselves up for a big letdown
We're convincing ourselves that past performance = future results. Don't. If you don't know why we shouldn't get our hopes up, then you haven't been here since early 2004 on. Relax. Work hard for your candidate. Expect disgusting things from the monsters who call themselves Republicans. They would rather destroy the country than lose an election.

55. You mean she's so ignorant and out of her league but she doesn't even know it?
That's what I was thinking. She REALLY believes that she could be a great vice-president and president. I don't even know if realizes what a laughing stock she is with about 60% of the population of the US and 95% of the world.

I think that it is unlikely that she would drop out, like 10%. It would have to be her to chose drop- which she wouldn't- so if did drop out, it would be McCain forcing her to.

56. I don't think she will drop voluntarily; I think she will be forced out
and they will make it look voluntary. Palin's outlandish cognitions notwithstanding, she will make a fool of herself in the debate, and bring the McCain campaign significant trouble.

Furthermore, if you expect me to believe that this election is already stolen, you have to furnish some explanation as to why the 2006 elections weren't. Did they just fuck up? Weren't those elections important?

These people are powerful and motivated to be sure, but don't give them Godlike omnipotence, because they fall well short of that mark. If this election is too slanted in Obama's favor, they will be unable to pull off the heist. We can and will beat these people this time unless we give in to self defeating fatalism.

57. She didn't seem all that confident with Katie Couric
I think you are overestimating her. Without a teleprompter, she doesn't have the wit to hold her own in national politics.

65. I doubt she could do it with a teleprompter. That's not what I meant.
I meant that we shouldn't underestimate how far she plans to go. She's not scared, and she's not planning to drop out. She wants to be president and she'll fight for it.

74. I thought she was visibly scared in the Couric interview
you could see her chest heaving and the fear in her face. She's greedy though, and she's not going to quit.

70. I believe she isn't cowering only because she thinks GOD wants her to do this.
She's said so many things about that in the past... she fully believes that God is calling her to do this. Please, if there is a God, can you STOP telling these wackos to do this stuff? If there is a God I highly doubt she is interfering in the politics of America. I about barfed when I saw a giant american flag in the window of the christian store downtown today...

78. I disagree, she is arrogant but also very insecure with herself
the fact that tries to fire anyone who disagrees with her and feels a need to abuse her power shows she is insecure. There is no doubt she is frazzled right now and takes the SNL type jokes to heart. It has been said that she can't take criticism which is her biggest problem hitting the national scene and having the whole country focused on her and her screwing up. That has got to be eating her up inside.

I suspect they will give her some coke before she debates Biden. There is no way she can face him on a national stage without some powder courage. If she is on confidence building drugs the night of the debate, she might do OK and if she starts to regain her confidence she could be tough. Right now however, she has no confidence in herself.

some sympathy points that will make the cheerleaders in the GOP spin room busy.

82. Look, Palin is a narcissistic woman who hasn't yet discovered that she's reached the Peter Principle
Sure, we shouldn't take her inadequacies for granted, but her inability to identify and correct her own faults is an advantage to Obama/Biden.
