McCain camp prays for Palin wedding
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article4837644.ece

The marriage of the vice-presidential candidate’s pregnant teenage daughter could lift a flagging campaign
Sarah Baxter in Washington

In an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.

Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. “It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”

There is already some urgency to the wedding as Bristol, who is six months pregnant, may not want to walk down the aisle too close to her date of delivery. She turns 18 on October 18, a respectable age for a bride — and the same age as Barack Obama’s pregnant mother when she married his Kenyan father. The Democrat has already declared Bristol’s private life off-limits as far as his campaign is concerned.

1. Worst. Stunt. Ever.
That would be the political stunt to end all stunts. It would be truly laughable.

2. This is absolutely loathsome.
I feel sorry for Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston to be used like this.

Levi Johnston has said he's not all that interested in marriage. If this sorry spectacle happens...it's shameful. It is absolutely shameful and morally bankrupt to go ahead with this. It's a political stunt, simple as that.

12. Republican Campaign Doctrine: distraction, confusion, chaos & fear.
This would be business as usual.

4. I seriously doibt every network is clamoring to make a big deal
out of that, especially in Alaska! Oh, I'm sure they'll do some coverage, but I can't see it helping McNuts campaign at all.

9. Won't it call attention to the trashy nature of Levi and the Palin family?
I still don't get the appeal of these lowlife rugged-Alaskan types for the American voter. Alaska has the highest high-school dropout rate in the country (including Levi). Why would this be where we turn for national leadership? I prefer smart, classy, even (gasp) elite people to be in charge of things, not moose-hunting hockey players. This is insane.

11. Of course it's insane, but the op hinted that this "event" would
boost McNut's campaign in some positive way, and I just don't see it happening. It might get them a few headlines, but it has no staying power that I can think of.

5. Wow. This is in such poor taste. I can't imagine they're even considering it -
but I have no doubts Palin would go along with it.

7. My two cents
She should have just given the baby up for adoption and gone on with her life. A shotgun wedding for two teenagers with the husband and father to be not wanting either is a diaster in the making. It's not something which should emmulated and praised across the country for political points.

8. So, we are wrong if we politicize Palin's family
but the McCain campaign can do so all they want?

10. They are going to force that poor girl into a wedding just for politics?
What sick bastards. Mom is going to steal that poor girls most special day simply so her running mate can claim a few fucking points in a poll.

13. If this is true and Palin is going along with this, and how could she not be,
crocodiles have more material instinct than she does. If so, then that creature is a monster.

However, I would turn on the crap detector for this one. Since Murdock got his claws on the Times, it's now slightly less tabloid than News of the World.
