Will Bush be in attack mode or conciliatory in tomorrow's speech ?
At first, I would have said that he wanted to play the role of a moderate and conciliatory candidate, since he had his attack dogs try to chew up his opponent tonight. He can pretend to be above it all - just doing the work of the people - keeping them safe and beholden to him for thier security.

However, with these attacks, mostly Zell Miller's, backfiring on the Bush campaign, maybe Bush will decide to go into attack mode? Maybe he will attack his opponent by name? Maybe he will show his mean side?

6. It will end with a whimper
Unless their game plan really is based on fear for retaining their hard right base and abandoning swing voters.

4. Rove's head must be spinning now trying to gauge the response and
tweak *'s message. On the other hand, they don't have any SUBSTANCE or PLANS or ACCOMPLISHMENTS to talk about, so he will have to attack! It's all they've got. We are watching the death throes of this horrible administration. Thank God.

5. I can only imagine
just how much all the protestors are getting under his thin skin. We just might see him blow up too. Maybe I'm just hoping for the total meltdown.

8. I think he'll try both.
It takes so long -- weeks, if the State of the Union is any indication -- to load a new speech into Junta Boy that they can't change directions on a dime.

Whatever it is, it has to be applicable to whatever the political landscape looked like six weeks to three months ago.

He knows he's cornered, he'll get shitty.

Even the "nice" stuff will come with a sneer.

12. Attack mode or conciliatory, with no in between.
The black/white thinking here is so pervasive that people are unable to think in any other way. Either you run an attack campaign, or you "take the high road." Either you're foaming at the mouth, or bending over and taking it.

Presidents do not attack. Neither do presidential candidates, unless they're desperate. Surrogates do that stuff. Bush's speech was programmed for positive months and months ago. It also ads contrast to all the negativity, which makes Bush look "sunny" and "upbeat," two words I guarantee you will see from the media tomorrow regarding Bush.
