democrats not to go public about what the repukes objections are to the the bail out plan?? That doesn't even make sense to me but that's what Matt Lauer just said.

6. funny how things can be reported 180 degrees apart
probably the former is true, but he added "if you go public with what these fools are doing, it will screw things up" so a limbaugh/hannity-type reporter opted to report that part

4. What were they going to do, change the Republicans minds?
Then they could come out and say the Democrats were to blame for any delay.

What did they expect the Democrats to do walk out quietly while the White House sent Cheney in to make threats against the Republican members?

7. Here you go from the NYT:
In the Roosevelt Room after the session, the Treasury secretary, Henry M. Paulson Jr., literally bent down on one knee as he pleaded with Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker, not to “blow it up” by withdrawing her party’s support for the package over what Ms. Pelosi derided as a Republican betrayal.

“I didn’t know you were Catholic,” Ms. Pelosi said, a wry reference to Mr. Paulson’s kneeling, according to someone who observed the exchange. She went on: “It’s not me blowing this up, it’s the Republicans.”

Mr. Paulson sighed. “I know. I know.

8. Thank goodness the NYT printed who is at fault.
“It’s not me blowing this up, it’s the Republicans.”

Mr. Paulson sighed. “I know. I know.”

9. The White House doesn't even think Mccain's a viable negotiation partner...
The White House & Paulson knew there was a major group of GOP'rs ready to mutiny, and they were concerned that Mccain's political theatrics would screw things up.

In other words, the White House is sincerely trying to make a deal before things meltdown on wall street (on monday).

When Mccain parachuted in and threw a wrench at the good faith process, Paulson went to the DEMOCRATS he's been working with for weeks... to beg them not to blow this up. It makes perfect sense, and shows that even the White House doesn't consider Mccain to be a viable partner in negotiations.

Think about that for a minute...
