So far, he's taking a very gentle line.

At some point -- like before 9AM Thursday -- I think he needs to call McCain out. I don't know if he should use the word "coward", but I wouldn't mind him refer to McCain "trying to duck the debate" and "trying to find an excuse for Palin not to debate."

Challenge the SOB. "If John McCain thinks he has to physically be in DC to be close to the economic situation at this moment, then OK, let's move the debate to DC and we'll use the time to talk to the American people about the economic crisis."

6. If he did, I sure missed it
I heard him say something like, "It would be better to have the debates" or "This is a time when the candidates should be talking to the American people"

Let me explain what calling out means.

"John McCain can't cut and run. We have a debate scheduled, and I expect him to be there."

he basically said that HE, Obama would be there. Indicating that even if John was not there, he would be anyway.

11. I watched two of them, and heard another on the radio
None of them "Called McCain out". All the statements were very soft, saying it would be better for the country if the debates went on as planned.

I want to hear him say, "This debate is going on. I'll be there. I hope John McCain decides to stow up."

If he has said anything that clear or forceful, I'd surely appreciate a link.

8. Now. Sign the petittion!
Subject: Tell McCain and Obama: We need a real debate on the economy.

Dear Friend,

John McCain thinks we don't need a presidential debate on Friday night. We disagree. We need a real debate on the economy, and we need it now. The presidential candidates should hold their debate Friday as scheduled, and address the proposed $700 billion Wall Street bailout.

We've been hearing a lot this week about how our economy is in a crisis - maybe the worst crisis since the Great Depression. Politicians on the left and the right have made all kinds of claims about exactly how much or little we should panic and what that means for the policies we should enact.

We reject the notion that canceling the debate is the best way to focus on the economy. We have a monumental decision to make this November, and we deserve a robust conversation on the defining issues of our time.

I just signed a petition calling on Senators McCain and Obama to debate economic issues this Friday -- I hope you will too.

Please have a look and take action.

Thanks!
