The answer should be NO!
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 02:19 PM by madaboutharry
Show up and talk about it.

This is just outrageous. This debate must happen. The American people deserve to hear
from the both candidates on the issues.

Actually, I am so taken by this I can't even think.

1. What about the election?
Perhaps Obama's team should ask if John's going to suggest we cancel the election as well, since John McCain has no time to campaign while he's fixing the economy!

2. to be honest, i think obama should agree to it.....
....and reschedule the debate to a night other than a friday night so that people will actually be home watching it and seeing what a dimwit mccorpse is.

7. If people are interested enough to watch a debate, I don' think the day
would make much difference. IMO.

8. come on...friday night?
most people are ready to break away from the house after a week of work. they're much more likely to stay in on a weeknight and flip on the tube.

when i heard the first debate was scheduled for friday, i figured the repukes chose the day.

12. I stand by it. They can party at home or watch it at a bar, but if someone is
involved enough to tune in, they'll tune in, regardless of the day.

14. But.... I'm guessing pretty much that most Joe Sixpacks have already
made up their minds. They're not the ones who will watch to LEARN anything about the candidates -- they probably just tune in to diss their candidate's opponent.

Boy, that sounded elitist! But I'm thinking of the vast majority of people I know around here -- there is no debate. They're not voting for a Democrat or a black guy. Period.

But it's we, my friend Gato, who will help change the world. :pals:

17. well, now you've got me wondering why we should even have the debates.....
....if joe sixpacks are that hopeless.

seriously, i think a lot of fence sitters and independents, who might not be political junkies but who'd watch the debates if it was convenient for them, would lean toward obama if they got a good taste of mccain's stupidity on the tv screen.

you're right that partisan repubs and hard core progressives have made their minds up and the debates won't change them.

as for changing the world, i wish we could. there's so much that needs changing. even if we do get obama in there, he can't even make a dent in the change we need. i'm not sure what can be done any more. the friggin north pole is melting and the news media would rather cover the type of glasses sarah palin wears.

3. They could legitimately switch the topic from foreign policy to our economy -
THAT is very important to the Americans - to hear how each of the candidates would deal with this crisis.

This could be a great opportunity for a candidate (Obama) who has solid, reasonable plans for our future.

McCain is just hoping to ride this out. :grr:

10. I don't have a problem with it.
Obama should just say that the debate should go on as planned as all the resources have been dedicated to event. The debate just takes a few hours and they can meet with congressional members the rest of the time.

:)
