New FOX NEWS poll Obama 45 (+3) McCain 39 (-6)

Barack Obama has recaptured the lead — 45 percent to 39 percent — over John McCain in the presidential race, according to a FOX News poll released Wednesday.

As majorities of each party's faithful back their party nominee, the battle stays focused on that most sought-after group of voters: independents.

These voters, evenly divided between the candidates in August, swung to McCain earlier this month, which gave him his first lead over Obama since April. In this latest poll independents give a slight edge to Obama, though many have moved back into the undecided column.

In addition, the poll shows Obama has improved his position on the most important issue to voters this year — the economy. He is seen as the best candidate to handle the nation's economy, and more voters also say he would be better at handling the current financial crisis facing the country.

Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from September 22 to September 23. The poll has a 3-point error margin.
McCain held a 3-point advantage earlier this month immediately after the Republican convention (September 8-9). Before that Obama had a 3-point lead going into the Democratic convention (August 19-20). Looking back as far as a year ago, in head-to-head polling neither candidate has had a lead outside the poll's margin of sampling error. Obama's lead today is just at the outside edge of the margin of error.

31. I did. And here are a few excerpts for your viewing pleasure......
"what’s with the Fox news poll on their website all of a sudden Obama is way up??"

and then, note the Freeper spelling:

"I get the feeling we are loosing ground.. quickly.

This is all but over."

One final comment:

"You're correct...Rasmussen has been a trustworthy poll, and that's why I'm starting to get nervous.

Seven weeks out and the majority of polls show Obama up anywhere from a couple points to the big spread in today's ABC poll (an outlier, to say the least).

When you consider the usual Dem voter fraud, the inevitable media "October Surprise" that ambushes McCain, and the absolute refusal of the MSM to focus on anything other than purported McCain/Palin foibles while ignoring the Obama laundry list, I'm not getting the sense that McCain is gaining the traction he'll need to pull it off on election day.

In other words, if these polls remain generally where they are up until Nov 4, the pollsters and media are going to have a lot of 'splainin' to do if McCain wins.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'm less optimistic today than I was a couple weeks ago, when it appeared that McCain was beginning to pull away."

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

12. Polls
2 different ones now confirm ABC/Washington Post that Obama has opened up a large lead. While Fox,and the other tracking poll doesn't have It as large as ABC.6 points Is a great lead.Bill Clinton beat
Poppy Bush by 5,and Clinton beat Dole by 7 In 1996(although without Perot CLinton probally would have
broken 50 percent) and remember this Is Fox!

18. What's worse for mcPOW is not that he is down six at fux, it's that he has
a new bottom. 39%!!!!!!

He breached the 30s!!! That is a psychologically tough number. Especially as some polls have Obama in the 50s!

Polls should have the opposite effect on the campaign and its volunteers--they should be encouraged to work HARDER due to good news.

32. Even their spin is positive for Obama
I think even Fox can use a reputable pollster to put out an accurate poll, just like Daily Kos can. The poll is not supposed to reflect the ideology of the sponsoring organization, unless it's a private poll for a candidate or interest group. But the news organization sponsoring the poll often shows its bias in how it spins the poll...interesting that even the spin on this poll is positive for Obama. I guess when a candidate gains 9 points in 2 weeks there are not too many ways to spin it negatively for him.
