A recent survey showed that, in 74% of married couples, the wife manages the family's finances.

The upheaval in financial markets this week hit them where they live.

They looked at the family 401K plans and said, "holy shit! We won't be able to retire as soon."

They looked at their children's college fund accounts and said, "holy shit! How will we afford college?"

They looked at their checkbook and credit card statements, and noticed how much more they're paying for gas and groceries and said, "Holy shit! How are we going to pay the bills?"

They looked at their remaining mortgage balance, and compared it with the plummeting value of their home and said, "Holy shit! We owe more on the house than it is worth!"
