15. There was a study done on this.
I think it was Cornell but I'm not sure but basically people who are ignorant aren't even aware of their ignorance until they gain enough ability to be able to gauge the limits of their knowledge. The study was basically something where they tested people and then asked them to evaluate themselves on how well they think they did. The people who did the best and the people who did the worst felt that they did the best. Obviously, the people who did the best were accurate because they knew the answers but the people who did the worst didn't know they did so badly because they obviously had no way of knowing what questions they answered correctly or not.

It seems like an obvious conclusion but not enough people realize that in their ignorance, stupid people can't even realize that they ARE stupid and it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle.

This is the problem with the Republicans.

22. And McLoser took a stand...multiple stands, in fact--a different one every day.
Economy fundamentally good! Oops, no, economy bad, must not bail out AIG! Oh, well, guess we must bail out AIG, so let's fire Chris Cox! Oops, Prez can't fire Chris Cox...well then, I've always been for more regulation of Wall Street--who let those greedy fatcats get away with this? I did? No, it wasn't me, it was Barack Obama! He spent four years in DC doing NOTHING but controlling the financial universe from his Senate office...except he doesn't have any experience. Er, wait...

26. I agree...
100 percent with you. McCain seems to of multiple minds of late... How in the world is he going to beat Barack Obama in the upcoming debate...

Hmmm...

That is a very good question. I don't really think the answer will give him much comfort or hope because if he goes into it this scatter brained Obama will walk all over him. To say this first debate will be a bloodbath is trully an understatement.

23. Sadly
Sadly, what she says will be repeated by the Republican noise machine (am talk radio, fox news, right wing newspapers, etc.) and there will be millions who believe her lies as truth. This happened in 2000 with Gore "He thinks he invented the internet!! OMG!", in 2004 with Kerry "He's not a patriot: he threw away his medals and hates America, unlike war hero W Bush", and this year "Obama is a Muslim, and Palin is an experienced maverick who will bring needed change to Washington. Obama will personally come to your house and murder your children!"

If Biden had gotten his sister's ex husband fired and fired his boss, it would be 24-7 on the news for the last 3 weeks. With Palin, it's being ignored. If Biden billed the state for time spent at home with his family, it would be on the news 24-7 too. But with Palin it's been pretty much ignored. There is no Democratic Noise machine, so major flaws that should be important news are ignored.

I'm worried about the October surprise 100% false BS that surfaces, making you want to kill yourself because it's so wrong and stupid, but gains traction, like "Hi, I'm just a private citizen, but I'm coming forward because Obama murdered my sister and told me he'd kill me if I told anyone." Then it will surface that this person is a staunch republican and was paid $40,000 to fake this story by the GOP. But that will somehow be ignored, and the news shows will be leading off with "Is Obama a murderer? Do you really trust a Negro-American to be President? Let's talk now to Jill Smith, who says Barack Obama shot her mother with a gun, but got off because his lawyers claimed that it's racist to convict a black man.' ARE YOU GOING TO PUT UP WITH THIS? First we'll bring in our first guest, a skinhead who says black people are evil. Is he right?"

So far this summer I've seen slanted coverage on the non-Fox networks, including headlines on cnn.com like "Obama may be in trouble" when the cnn poll of polls showed Obama ahead of McCain by 6-7 points, "McCain surging after _____" when the poll of polls showed Obamas lead go from 5 to 4, or "McCain firmly in the lead" when McCain was up by 1 point 3 days after the GOP convention. I've even seen headlines like "Obama can't count on the African American vote" where they managed to find 2 black people that are not voting for Obama. Buried in the article it even says Obama is polling at 92% of AA's, but somehow that is turned into an article questioning his support.

I've also heard several idiots on sports message boards claim that Obama will give reparations to all black people if elected, and other people say they can't vote for him because of that. It's ridiculous, but that's how the GOP wins, by the Republican Noise Machine convincing 5 million people to believe a bunch of ridiculous lies about the Democrat, so they vote GOP as the lesser of two evils, even though it's completely false.

In 2006 it was "Democrat" Mark Foley that needed to be thrown out of Congress, now I'm afraid that all the economic consequences of the Bush Administration will be blamed on the Democratic Congress, and people will believe it. It's fucking crazy, but it has happened before several times.

If we just had an unbiased media, this election would be over. But they are all going to try to get McCain elected, and millions of people will vote not knowing the facts on many things. Hopefully we can overcome this built in disadvantages.

24. That's the problem - not her stupidity, but the voters who believe what she's saying
or WANT to believe it - enabled by the non-informative MSM.

Does she know she was behind the curve when she promised to put the government checkbook online? Does she even care?

Or will she repeat it anyway, knowing that 1) the MSM won't blast her for lying the way they would a Democrat; and 2) knowing those cheering dimbulbs in the crowd will eat up any anti-Obama/anti-Democratic rhetoric?

27. Probably not advised repeatedly that the lies are lies
This morning I was hearing TV chatter that could have been written by McCain campaign. McCain strong, took a stand, had a plan, Obama just waited, didn't look strong, came up with no plan.
Mccain warned of Fannie Mae issue, Obama used them as advisers, so Obama can't play that card.

No one mentioned Obama's prior speeches and actions on mortgage crisis or the wall street speech months ago on needing regulation. Instead I hear he gets most money from wall street, hard to believe he will do anything. No one mentioned Obama actually took questions after his speech unlike McCain or bush. In fact after showing parts of McCain speech they often showed Obama rally where he bashed McCain not mentioning that wasn't his speech. A strength of his speech was that he didn't bash McCain, that he was encouraging...whatever

Horrible coverage and I don't even watch to Fox
